As a youngling I played many hours of Diablo 2 and it has been one of my favorite games since. When I saw PoE it looked remarkably similar, and i was extremely pleased to find that it had many of the same qualities that made me love D2 so much.
Path of Exile has a style that looks extremely complicated from the outside, but is very much understandable for any player who wants to get the full experience out of the game. For those not daunted by complexity PoE offers countless ways to optimize and perfect your character, while even a casual gamer who does not want to expend the mental energy can enjoy the pure carnage of the game and not be held at a sizeable disadvantage.
For a FREE game PoE is beyond fantastic, and further events and development is fueled by its microtransaction system. Many of the microtransactions are EXTREMELY expensive, however they are non-predatory. Most offer different visuals or quality of life improvements to storage. The quality of life upgrades are some of the cheapest and can easily be obtained by even an individual on a budget as they are one-time purchases.
