I can't in good faith not recommend it. It's fun, it's novel, there's lot's to discover, but oh lord is it frustrating. No, not because of the RNG, but because it's just so SLOW. It's not too bad at first, but the longer the game goes on, the more these needless time wasters stand out.

Start of day? Unskippable animation, plus needing to walk to a special location to activate an unlocked bonus. Every day.

Drafted a fairly common room that you will need nearly every run? Now you have to slowly tab through a bunch of menus that all have animations that block you from doing it quickly.

Drafted one of a number of interacting rooms? Prepare to turn around and back track.

When you want to solve certain puzzles? That's right, back tracking, and you dont move quickly!

Dig up an item? Pointless fade to black for a second.

Pick up an item. even if it's just a dice which is basically a common currency rather than an item? Another animation with a pop up screen you have to click through.


One particularly egregious puzzle has you using wheels to turn a puzzle element. You still need to interact with them after you solve it, and it needs 6 turns each time you do so, and for each of those six there's a tedious unskippable animation.

Etc. Etc.

And individually none of these are terrible (ok, apart from the puzzle with the wheels), but all together it makes me want to scream at the developers for going out of their way to make the game more annoying to play.

Too tedious, long animations, sooooo much talking, and tons of really slow camera pans every time anything happens in the game. You can skip them, but it's not instant and even after skipping everything it can take a while for the game to catch up, plus you then of course miss whatever was actually happening. Could really use a speed slider for these things so I can have it quickly show me what just spawned. Plus the game commits the cardinal sin of the 'Skip Dialog' button and 'Repeat Dialog' button being the same damn button.

Missions get super tedious by zone 3, with swarms of really annoying infinite-spawning enemies that suck to fight, and more 'survive x time' missions. Especially annoying are the enemies that drop totems - one of which you have to destroy instantly or it will infinitely spawn more and more enemies each turn that bog you down and prevent you from destroying the totem, effectively providing an instant loss.

The ship game-play doesn't really add anything, the characters and story are much less interesting, and while I like the changes to the class system, the game is overall significantly less fun the Heist 1. Music is good though.

Not sure what everybody else is seeing in this game, played it with some friends and it's just... kinda pointless? There's a lot of complexity, but none of that complexity seems to add any depths or anything to actually do other than grind.

Really enjoying this game. I never played Gladius, but it does remind me of a much better and more streamlined Age of Wonders: Planetfall. Only gripes are minor UI issues and a lack of unit formation controls.

Having a great time so far. Weirdly reminds me a little of Subnautica, survival crafting with plot and a constant unease for what might be lurking just out of sight. Some considerations:
-You cannot save mid-map. You really need to be able to commit about an hour of time to play because of this.
-I've not had any performance issues, but if you're worried there's a demo which will allow you to check!
-You lose quite a lot of progress if you die. If you want a more forgiving experience you can change this, and many other aspects, in the settings menu.

The rest of the game is great, but dear God the stealth sections are so bad I nearly gave up early.

A unique, relaxing, puzzle-esque game with some really beautiful results. Creative and highly enjoyable.

However the game does seem to be really quite short on content. The game has 4 biomes, initially with 1 'map' each, that I completed to 100% in 4 hours on the middle difficulty, having played the demo once a few months back. After that another set of 4 'maps', one for each biome, unlock. I use quotes because they are procedurally generated so there is re-play value there, but game time seems rather short for it's price compared to other indy puzzler or builder games.

8% of profits are going to charity though, so it's worth it imo, but most will probably want to wait for it to be on sale.

EDIT: I have now 100% the game in 8 hrs, minus three achievements which would probably take another hour or so if I was completionist enough to get them.
