Great Strategic Fun

Europa Universalis IV is a fantastic game, ever wanted to conquer England as an Irish minor state? How about reforming the Roman Empire or conquering the world as a native american tribe? EU 4 let's you do all of this and so much more.

As a grand strategy game you get to pick any country or state that existed in the 1400's and manage the day to day decisions that a despot has to deal with. This includes creating armies, establishing alliances and coalitions, enacting reforms and managing warfare. If that sounds a little complex, then I'm probably not doing the game justice as there is a LOT to this game. To the point where it is a little jarring to jump into at the start, give the game a few hours (and watch a few youtube tutorials) and you will find it a greatly rewarding experience.

Building an empire and conquring the world is a lot of fun however it is not the only way to play this game. You can build a trade empire and bathe in sheckels while your petty neighbours wage war and destroy each other. You can also build a colonial empire and exploit the technological backwards tribes.

One small downside is that there is a lot of downloadable content for this game a lot of which really adds to the experience of the game. This DLC is quite pricey and added with the cost of the base game the combined cost of the game with all of the DLC currently costs £76. Honestly though with the amount of enjoyment to be had here it is still worth the hefty price tag (especially when it is on sale).

This is a game that has eaten up a lot of people's time and for a good reason, there is so much enjoyment and replayability to be found here and I heartily recommed it.
