NOTE: This was originally a negative review written in mid November 2019. Skip to the end for my update.

Tale as old as DLC itself: this is actually an awesome game, but I simply can't recommend purchasing it. The microtransaction model was introduced to the playerbase as a strictly cosmetic thing: you could pay extra to get access to reskins of equipment and building blocks for your structures that functioned exactly the same (w/ the same stats) as vanilla versions. However, they've pushed the collections envelope too far in the new DLC "season", introducing tree forts which have no vanilla counterparts. With this, I expect them to transition from cosmetics to a "pay-to-win" DLC model where monied players have completely undeniable advantages over their more reasonable counter-parts who are unwilling to pay ~$130 just to access a full game.

I'd recommend waiting on this game until Funcom moves on to a new project and stops devlopping new ways to siphon your money, but I don't suspect that will be any time soon.

UPDATE: I'm happy to say that with the most recent mount (~12/10/2019) update I'm changing my review to a positive one. Literally everything about this game is awesome, and as I stated earlier the only thing stopping me from wholeheartedly recommending it was my concern over more game-changing DLC content like the tree forts from Pleasures of Derketo.

With the new mount update, Funcom has moved back toward the admirable philosophy of allowing those comfortable spending on DLC to financially contribute to *everyone's* enjoyment of the game instead of just their own. The completely cosmetic Riders of Hyboria pack undoubtedly helped incentivize their development of a mount-system that the whole community now gets to enjoy. I'm genuinely thrilled to see a return to an unfettered "Season 1" philosophy with regards to DLC, and I now *strongly* recommend buying the game with confidence you'll be receiving a (awesome) *complete* game for the steal of a $16 sale price (frankly even the full $40 price is pretty reasonable for the quantity and quality of content in the base game)

Fee2Pay model, avoid and buy a better game that's complete on purchase.

Probably not worth the $20 they're normally asking for it, but definitely worth picking up on sale
