I liked this game well enough before the recent "Advanced Gungeons and Dragons" update (maybe "Enter The Pungeon" would have been a better name for this one,) but now I can safely say that I love it. The devs have addressed the one issue I had with this game: its difficulty. Before the solution was to git gud, normally not an issue for lovers of Rogue games, but it ticked me off that my runs would end so quickly because I just wasn't skilled enough at dodging. The recent update on top of adding new items, enemies and much more variety of rooms also made extra heart containers and health restoratives drop far more frequently.

Now? I finally find myself in that glorious zone where a run goes on just long enough to make my death motivating rather than agravating. One more, maybe this time will be the one where I make it to the bottom.

I played and loved DoW 1 and 2 for different reasons. DoW 1 was an excellent 40k themed classic ground RTS: big armies, giant waves of doods, tanks and faction exclusive units smashing into each other, what isn't to love? Despite the differences between them, I also had a real love for DoW 2. A hybrid RTS-RPG with loot, an interesting campaign composition and the ability to play through the entire campaign in co op. It traded large scale army smashing in for moment to moment tactics and positioning, Diablo and 40k had a beautiful baby and I was oh so there for it.

So naturally, when the news broke that Relic was at long last making another one I was pumped. Was, is the keyword in that sentence.

Dear God-Emperor I wanted to like this, I really did. The critics sure seemed to, and that discrepency between user and critic reviews is what made me try it out. Turns out the people were right.

SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT ANYWAY: Long story short, mixing two great things doesn't always result in Resee's peanutbutter cups if you know what I mean. The issue is that they did both things half way. Basebuilding and support units are back, but they're nowhere near as customizeable or useful as they were in DOW 1. There also are far fewer support units per faction. Every important element from DoW 1 feels like it was distilled and drained of all depth and charm so what we get is Diet DoW.

As for what they brought in from 2, hoooo boy is that another porblem. Hero units, cool. There's no loot to collect, no customizing their equipment, just whatever they start with and they're practically bulletproof unless they're fighting another hero. It feels like this element was developed without consulting the team working on the smaller units and base building at all. I can take Chapter Master Angelos (that was a nice little touch though) on a solo run through enemy territory, wipe out three control points worth of orks and still have 2/3rds of his health left.

Didn't try multiplayer but I have heard it's pretty dead, and it brings up an interesting point. Some people have speculated that this game was designed primarily for multiplayer and meant to cater to the E-Sports crowd. I have nothing to back this up, but from my experience that would fit with the end result. A classic example of putting the cart before the horse. Thank the Emperor for steam refunds.

Relic, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. I only scold you out of love, and I hope you come back for more 40k.

tl;dr: Babies first MOBA + Babies first RTS crudely smushed together like playdoh does not a compelling game make. Save your money, go buy the other games or their expansions if you don't already have them.

It's 12 years old, but the two EA remakes still can't live up to the amount of content and entertainment so many have gotten from this timeless classic. The servers have been turned back on, rescued from the GameSpy apocalypse after all this time. If that isn't enough to convince you this game is a masterpiece and the new iterations are garbage I don't know what will.

ED is very much a SPACE SIM. I can't recommend enough playing this with a flight stick, that's the best way to really feel like you're piloting a space ship. I've heard this game described as "Space Truck Simulator," and honestly it kind of is at some points but I actually kind of like space trucking! Throw on some tunes or a podcast, fly across the galaxy and rake in the sweet sweet payday when you deliver the payload of a lifetime. Play with friends if that's your bag, or just lose yourself in the universe alone. Don't trust the negative reviews if you want a space SIM. If you have a shorter attention span however, I don't think this game will end up being to your liking.

It took me years to finally play and beat RE4. I first played it on the gamecube, but that was when I was young and easily frustrated, and gave up very early on. Now? I've played it start to finish and it deserves every bit of praise it gets.

This game is the weirdest combination of ideas, settings and cracked out plot points, but somehow it all WORKS. A lot of people have complained about this port, but I've had nothing but buttry smooth 60 fps. It takes a little time to get used to the mouse controls if you're used to playing RE4 with a controller, but once you do you'll never go back.

For 20 bucks? Less if it's a sale period, this is a great way to play one of the greatest and weirdest horror-action games ever made.

Is UNLOVED substantial at the moment? No, that's why it's price is so low. Is what's there good? Hell yes. A roguelike horror FPS could scarcely be better done. Grapics are fugly, but if anything it adds to the mood, making it feel a lot like system shock 2. Gunplay is fast, strategic and entertaining. Guns sound good and hit hard. The "heat" system is a great unique selling point, making enemies spawn more the more you interact with items on the map. Suddenly that ammo doesn't look so appealing, do you REALLY need it? I'm excited to see where the game goes, and I'm really glad I jumped on when I did. Find a friend and shoot some monsters with a double barrel.

I joked around once about games being more addictive than drugs, and that lead to the question: What drug is each game? Well, if Call of Duty is coke (easy to find in plenty, lots of twitching, high strung emotions, kind of trashy) and MOBAs are heroine (highly addictive, popular, eats up almost all of your time) then Stardew Valley is weed. It just makes you happy, goofy and in a serious state of zen. No other game is as fun, satisfying, and calming as SDV. Deep, upbeat yet mature, and a serious mood raiser. I can't say enough good stuff about this game.

If you haven't heard about Doom 4 or Doom 2016 or Doom whatever the ♥♥♥♥ we're calling it, I'm impressed at your ability to supress gaming news, and allow me to fill you in. It's yet another reboot of the original Doom, though this one was built not as a modern interpretation, but a loving fusion of what we can do with modern tech, and what was great about old shooters.

From the old, you run full speed at all times, can carry all the guns, the levels are huge and full of secrets, there's key hunting, no reload mechanic.

From the new, character progression, weapon upgrades, challenges, gore-geous graphics, takedown animations (ala Brutal Doom)

What I feel is worth mentioning, combat is fantastic, it's the main draw. An old and new blend that'll have you making the Doom-guy face and reflexively talking like you've just come from a cigarette and raw meat convention. As a guy who likes the ins and outs of guns, I thought the lack of a reload mechanic was going to be a downside, but instead having weapon mods to swap between and excellently detailed and satisfying weapons, I honestly never felt like the game was worse off for not having it. The mechanic honestly would have been a monkey wrench into a carefully designed and challenging rapid speed combat system.

Next, don't believe the minimum system requirements. Doom is optimized relatively well, and turning off a few bells and whistles let me run this bad boy on a GTX 660 with a relatively stable framerate. Turn off ambient occulision and V-sync if you're having trouble. Yes it makes it looks worse, but you really want stability in a game like this.

In summary, I knew I was in for something entertaining when I killed something in the first 20 seconds of the game. Maybe not worth a full 60 with it's estranged multiplayer element, but I enjoyed every second of single player. Rip and Tear indeed.

Old Wolf 3D is your complaining grandpa. The one that talks a lot about how he was in a war and how everybody owes ♥♥♥♥ to him because he fought for our country and so on and so forth despite the fact that he fired a gun like twice and spent the rest of the time standing guard duty, even in the presence of your cool uncle Doom, who was in it way deeper and has better stories about it.

Wolfenstein The New Order is what would happen if you finally called grandpa out on that ♥♥♥♥ and he got real serious, stood up from his armchair, cracked his knuckles and said "Sit your ass down sonny boy, I've still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ got it," then proceeded to reenlist, drop behind enemy lines and wipe out the opposition single handed with a rusty spoon and a banana peel.

Game developers take note: Hire compotent writers, get excellent story. Hire good programmers and designers: get good art and very satisfying gun play. If you're even a casual fan of shooters or alternate history stories, play this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
