In Assemble with Care you play as antique-restorer Maria. Help the townsfolk of Bellariva reconnect as you fix items they bring to you for repair.

The Story

Assemble with Care is a puzzle game where you repair real world items that customers bring into your shop. Items that tell a story about those who bring in the items for you to fix. The backdrop of the story takes place in the beach town of Bellariva, where Maria has gone on vacation to experience their renowned food festival.

Fixing the screen size

The game will ask your display options at startup, choose the first option “Play Assemble with Care ''.

Under that copy and paste -screen-height 1080 -screen-width 1920 into the advanced launch options and restart the game. This should fix the clipping and display issues. You can also set whatever resolution value you wish in the launch options. I chose 1080x1920 to be a comfortable size. If the game opens in full screen and you want windowed, pressing Alt+Enter should work.

This game was made for mobile and when ported they did not put in the appropriate display fixes for PC users.

Gameplay, Features & Visuals

The gameplay is short, ranging about 2-4 hours depending on how fast you piece together the puzzles. The game intertwines storytelling with intricate puzzles. Each item that you fix is closely connected to the characters who own the items and their personal stories.

Gameplay itself can be a bit wonky with the spots you are supposed to click not always catching and I wish the spinning of the objects could be controlled by the arrow keys on our keyboard instead of the mouse.

There are 14 puzzles in total that range in difficulty. Everything from a vintage camera to a broken cassette player. The setup of the game is like a picture book, and each level is a chapter where you scroll through the game page by page.

The game is fully voiced and the main voice of Maria was soothing and enjoyable. The sounds aside from the soundtrack, such as the sounds of bits and bobs and springs and knobs as you assemble items was well done.

Visually the game is beautiful. The art style is hand-drawn painted objects with subtle animations. The items have the impression of being alive or moving. The colour palette uses contrasting colours that make the items pop from their backgrounds. The painting of the backgrounds reminds me of watercolour washes.

Achievements are easy to get for this game and are all achievable through one regular play-though.

Overall Experience

I really enjoyed the narrative in this game, it was very heartfelt. The voice overs all sounded great for each character and the game itself was relaxing with puzzles ranging from easy to challenging without any frustrating to figure out. I finished this game in two hours and recommend buying this game on sale due to the length and not really having replay-ability once you’ve experienced it once though. ☕
