HA! HA! do Coringa

From Soft 10/10 sempre GOTY

video-games are usually fun experiences. easy to play, easy to replay, easy to watch someone playing it, easy to talk about. as much as any other piece of art, video-games talk to us in a language that can't be translated, much less copied or imitated by anything else. video-games are not like movies: a movie tells you a story, but a video-game invites you to be part of the story someone else wrote and to be part of the scenic beauty of things someone else drew.

we sometimes go through games that impact us by amazing gameplays, or great stories, or great looks, or simply by how long it may keep us entertained, and not often, by all of this together. and sometimes we go through a game like Gris. we make reviews about games to speak about the things we liked and the things we didn't, the things we think should be different and the things that shouldn't. this isn't one of those. this isn't a review about how great, fun or beautyful this game is. also, this isn't a review about how good the soundtrack is. neither is it about how much of a genius work Gris is. saying all of this is mediocre close to what the experience of playing Gris have been. Gris is more than the paintings in the scenario, more than the symphony in the soundtrack and soundeffects, more than the poetry in the storytelling. Gris is something made in a level of harmony and delicacy beyond what can be explained by words and beyond the arbitrariness of our opinions. maybe this is why there isn't a single word in the game. Gris is a lesson. and it is a lesson deeper than any lesson about people or about the world. it is a lesson about feeling, being. a lesson about self. a lesson told without a single word or map or objective. a lesson that could not be taught with more finesse in any other way. the message the game intends to pass fits in perfect harmony with the game's personality, simplicity and caprice. there are other beautyful and ellaborate games that pass said message on admirable terms, but none of them did it like Gris did.

maybe Gris was an idea of a single mind, or maybe Gris is the result of the dialogue between all the artists involved, but that doesn't weight on the impact of the final result. what is important is that Gris is not something that have ever been done and, also, is not something that will ever be done again.

for someone who plays lots of games of all kinds since a child, who is also someone who looks eagerly for those artsy, cute, different games intending to find unique pieces, Gris is definetly a find. someone just didn't expect it would be a find with that much might.
