Day 1 Review:

Cons:
- I enjoy being a sexy e-boy piece of bread, but we need more customisation options ngl

Pros:
- Reading all the salty negative reviewers who couldn't get their cheeks clapped online day 1 because of some server overcrowding errors. Then promised they'd change the review after it was fixed and never did, as literally everyone predicted.
- Everything else

10/10
Would drop a negative review but my attention span is luckily greater than a 2x speed TickTock bingeing snickers bar...

Update 1:
So the reason the game has alot of negative reviews coming in atm is because of the greedy monetisation practises being implemented by Bandi Namco. These complaints are definitely justified, the monetisation is quite bad even compared to MK1 and some of SF6's past mistakes. However, I still stand by the statement that the game itself is very enjoyable and well made, there are a few balance issues and bugs but its quite minimal and doesn't take away from the fun of the core game play loop (especially considering how balanced the game is despite not having an arcade testing period like prior titles) and the depth that is still present within Tekken despite some changes made for the casual audience. It honestly surprises me seeing how low the reviews have dropped since launch and the large amount of backlash the game has received for implementing this kind of monetisation. Don't get me wrong, we are better for it as a community, as companies like Namco should revive a lot of flack for this kind of behaviour, however I don't think the gaming community as a whole is very consistent with their appraisal of monetisation. Effectively we have a great game on our hands here that has dropped to a near mixed review ration overall and a near negative recent review appraisal, while simultaneously having games on steam with much better reviews executing the exact same if not worse monetisation practices (dragons dogma literally has better recent reviews and the game is bloody charging you for fast travel, SF6 has a shop plus a battle pass, and MK1 has the worst micro-transactions of all, yet their reviews all remain higher than Tekken 8.) I appreciate the concern from the community but I think people lack perspective and unfairly judge the game based on content that actually has no effect on the game play itself. If Tekken 8 added nothing and simply left the game as it was it would have continued to receive positive if not overwhelmingly positive reviews as it did on launch, yet now that it has a shop somehow this makes the game much less enjoyable? We have to realise that the shop and the battle pass are something that should be protested, but the fact that the game is now reviving more content (balance patches, new characters, new maps, new item, new feature, new game modes) will improve the games experience overall, not make it worse. The unfortunate part about all this is that in reality, Namco should have its own steam page where all of these negative reviews against Tekken can be more appropriately directed at the greedy company that is responsible for taking away from this great game. Tekken 8 is still definitely worth your money, however If monetisation and FOMO are something that pose a barrier to enjoyment for you I would hold off until Namco gets their ♥♥♥♥ together.

Update 2:
I still stand by the statements that I made in the first update, but since the launch of Heihachi and the paid stage being removed from the season pass through a scummy underhanded gap in the paperwork, the heartless greed of Namco is now seeping heavily into the game experience as a whole and cannot go unnoticed. I have changed my review to negative, I still love this game and will likely continue to play it, with the hope that it will get better. However, I am whole heatedly against Namco and their disgusting practices and underhanded strategies to cash out on community trust that was developed over the life time of the Tekken franchise. The game has balance issues, very notable problems with the ranked system, a extremely lacking battlepass, sometimes spotty online connections, and continued pressure from Namco on the Tekken 8 development team to ignore the community, and simply make money. This is all starting to add up, and this plus the overall style of dumbing down tekken while encouraging aggression and punishing skill and defence is getting to be overwhelming, and the game no longer deserves a positive review. If you are a long time Tekken fan, the game is still alot of fun and worth enjoying, or at least trying to see if it fits your style, but overall Bandi Namco's greed is starting to overshadow the great game underneath. It still pains me to do this because I love Tekken, but unfortunately without a direct ability to call out Namco this is the only way I can punish there behaviour.
All I can say to the tekken community is to not give up on this game, but to also keep complaining as much as possible. Do not buy items from the store, the battlepass, or the steam dlc page. Untill Namco feels the pain of our displeasure with there decisions right in their wallets, nothing will change.
Tekken is an amazing game and I love the development team, Namco is a scum bag piece of trash company that deserves to go under completely.

Update 3:
This will likely be my last update to the review. In the newest patch with Clive they finally made some very ground breaking changes to the game that fans have been calling for for too long. Most notably people are now penalised in ranked for plugging, and you are able to now lab characters you do not own in the replay section. These two changes alone have made me change my review back to positive. Tekken 8 has had a lot of ups and downs in its first year, and my faith in Namco is still shaky at best, but I love Tekken and It looks like it is going in a good direction. So fingers crossed and get ready for the next battle boyos.
