I have enjoyed this game mostly because of community support. It does not require internet and the random generator makes each session unique.

Steam keeps saying there's an error when I wrote this. So I'm trying from my phone and will edit with more detail later.

Basically, not worth it. Take2 made them rush this out and it needed at least 6 more months. The UI sucks, the kraken is rampant, and bugs make your time waisted like the save bug that reverts to random spots losing your effort.

I recently came back to this game and was very pleased to see the work they had done. So much added to the game. The Devs are super active and unlike so many others, they have not abandoned the game. The play style is so unique and I preferred to be a logi before, supporting the war effort is often more important than throwing bodies at the enemy. Since coming back I've focused more on the shooter aspect, and really enjoying the "fog of war" created by the over head view. It does take a bit to get use to, but like most games, you put a little time in and the controls become natural.

There are a few games I will go back to over and over, this one is one of them. So long as the player base stays strong, it will be a wonderful game. Btw, the player base is stronger than when I played it before. I'll be encouraging more of my friends to join as well.

The learning curve is not steep, and you get the hang of what you need quickly making you useful. Now, if you actually do useful things is up to you. Players are about 75% useful at the moment, and 25% just typical "hey look at me as I make calls and look up in the sky doing circles". Captains are voted on, and often new players get in there and have no clue what to do. This isn't all their fault as there is no captain tutorial. But you will learn it on the fly.

I highly recommend this game, and it brings back the old battlefield vibe or teamwork. I have had some epic crews and when we work together, we really kick ass.

Keep you keel clean, and your bow bloody!

I really loved this game... loved. It was everything I, as a flight sim geek would want in a space flight sim. But then you play, and keep playing, only to find out there is very little depth. It's the same kind of flight, over and over, with similar missions, and rarely interacting with others. Anyways, I would love to recommend it, and I'll give it a good rating because it is a good game. But honestly, I will not be playing it again unless some major changes occur. I did have fun though...

DCS is one of a dying breed, where simulation and complexity is cherished over easy fun. It's this complexity that scares many off, but there is such a great community around this game that they walk you through every step of the way, until you are not only independent, but a master of your ship. Single player or Multiplayer (my prefered way) is enjoyable. Campaigns are in depth and many community members are building unique missions and campaigns for free.

This is not a pay to win. This a flight sim in the truest sense, where you do have to buy a plane that you want to learn how to fly. It is truly LEARNING to fly. I have flown flight sims since 1992, in Aces Over Europe. I've flown nearly them all. I have my pilots license and have been in aviation my whole adult life. This game is flying first, combat second. The most popular server of the multiplayer servers is the acrobatic one. They even released three well known acrobatic aircraft in the civilian world, L-39, Yak-52, and Christen Eagle. Not to mention the F-18 is the same as the Blue Angels.

The combat though,... that is why I play. It's so immersive. No matter the air frame, from a Spitfire, to a Mig-15. From an F-5 Freedom Fighter to the Mirage 2000C. Fully clickable cockpits, VR ready, and missiles that can actually be dodged and countered. I play on multiplayer, in a dynamic campaign server run by the community. My typical session looks like this:

Spawn in, check the tactical commander map. See where we are weak. Move some units to the front lines if we need. Then I join flying a Ka-50. I spawn some crates at the command center and now must sling them safely without breaking to a distance away. I place them together and unpack to create an IR sam system. Someone else now in Tac Commander asks where I want that vehicle, and they send them on the way to the front lines. A call comes in from an Su-25T pilot who is going to run a SEAD mission to kill enemy radar SAMs. I offer to sweep the enemy fighters and switch to a mirage. Stating empty I ask the ground crew to put on my air to air combat load out. We start taxiing when the Tac Commander calls over "F-18, two ship inbound, angels 18. They're probably going to realese HARMs. I rush to get in the air. I see the F-18s just as they get ready to launch. I Fox a missile early trying to scare them off course, but I only carry 4. I see one break and dive down, launching a 120. I have to turn and run, s turning to drain it's energy. Our Su-25 is getting close now. I have to keep them away from him so I turn to reengage. I get another 120 launch on me. I head to the mountains drawing them away, they follow. The missile hits a hill, and I keep going, hoping to go close. I see a lock still from an 18 as I parallel a mountain. I reengage. Just as I do, an 18 screams over my canopy. He was real close. I turn hard, and see him doing the same. I suddenly see an AIM-9x come off his wing, curve 90 degs and head right at me. I flare like mad, spinning my plane in a tight barrel roll. I get tone on my Magic missiles. I fire, it connects.

Meanwhile the Su-25T calls that he's engage by the other 18. Not much I can do, he gets hit. I see the 18 now trying to get away. I keep my radar off and track him with my magic heat seeker. I am full throttle, doing mach 1.0 at tree top level. I feel like I'm pretty close now. I switch to 530's, turn on the radar and quickly get a lock. I fire. He can't run, he breaks, only slowing him down. I fire a second missile, a heater. The 530 connects. The heater connects. He doesn't bail out.

The pilot of the 25 gets on comms and says "that was fun and I got two missiles off on the sams but no kills. I need something faster. I'll take a viggen and lets try that again!".

This game is a pure rush.

I supported this game way before Steam, as pre-beta tester. Everything seemed like the future was unlimited. THey have removed all "simulation" aspects of the game, they nerfed the historical capabilities to "balance" the planes (what's the purpose of tiers if you have to nerf the planes too). They have Tiers where the Me262 is up again Mig 15s, (seriously?)

Overall, the game lost all what made it fun, and is full of arcade players that don't care enough because simulation and historical accuracy doesn't matter anymore.

Will anyone ever create a good Air, Land, Sea game again? (World War II On-line will always be the last good one, which also went the way of the nerf)

From the sandbox to career mode, with the endless player developed mods, this game is the most realistically entertaining game I've ever played. Space has never been so easy to understand and the difficulties of working in that enviroment and those of other worlds never clearer.

I waited for it to be on sale, but I would have gladly paid full price after I have played it. With NASA now working with Squad to create even more in depth mission experiences, it will be epic.

The only dislike is the lack of multiplayer. I have three friends whom play and we resort to screen shots to show our projects and designs.

UPDATE: Still playing, and still loving it. The Mod community make this game new every patch, and it never gets old. I would spend 3 hours designing, building, and flying to Jool, only to forget solar panels again.

Many RTS games tackle ficticious worlds and imaginary weapons. This is the first that I've played that is "real life" tools, but also has such an indepth control option and the details of the mechanics is rediculous. The AI is truly intelligent and will make you regret not covering your flank. You can create basically any scenario in multiplayer up to 10 v 10, and even play against a friend in the campaign mode.

I highly recommend this game, but only if you can accept another addiction!
