After 140+ hours I have established (without any cheats) a functional city of 400 people. This game is not BANISHED nor is it ment to be. However, if you liked Banished you'll like Ostriv. This is not an easy game to learn, it can be tricky but once you get it it runs well. It still needs work. It needs a Bakery and food crops (corn).
There are no armies, no wars, nothing to conquer. It's all about the economy. Making money and keeping the people happy can be difficult but doable. Beware it only appears to play slowly, there is always something happening usually way over on the other side of your map.
