It is an absolute joy to follow actual characters around while a real narrative unfolds in the BattleTech universe. If you want to enrich yourself in the lore, even just a tiny slice of it, then grab onto this game. Vast improvement over MW5: Mercenaries. My only grip is content is somewhat lacking. You can replay missions, but there is no instant action that lets you setup your own combats for you and your team mates to play in. Fingers crossed a DLC will fix this, or the modding community will get on it.

A very solid 8/10.

Get this game when its for sale, its worth $10 bucks or less. It has a myriad of smaller issues, but the two biggest are the extremely poor AI. Like, there is bad, and then there is this. If you're going PVP that wont be a issue. The next issue, and its the same issue I had with the studio's version of Mordheim, is the third person perspective. By default the FOV is crippling, but there is a simple mod which improves that. But playing a tactical turn based game in a 3rd person view is just frustrating. Yes you can view a 3D map, but even that is a pain due to just bad UI. If this game was a more traditional isometric, it would be vastly improved.

Also, prepare to be overwhelmed by a bewildering array of buffs and debuffs, which require a fairly deep dive into the clunk UI to fully understand.

Despite all the issues I have with the game, that Necromunda lore keeps me coming back. If you're not a 40k and/or Necromunda fan, I dont think there is anything here for you in this game.

If I could give a rating between up and down I would. The game is indeed early days. The core gameplay experience is a lot of fun (I played in the open betas so my time listed here should be +10 hours). My issue I'm seeing it lack of variety. With only 3 Captains to pick from, the game feels pretty lacking, Already I'm seeing a meta start with one particular captain seemingly picked every match. Give it a few months and I think Moonbreaker will come to life.

Only positive things to say about this game so far! There is nothing overly complex or daunting with its systems, and so is very easy to get into. There is no hand holding, it just thrusts you into the fray assuming you've got some knowledge of how games work. Despite this, anyone who'd be interested in this flavour of game will have zero issues working out what is what. Overworld exploration is fun with a constant 'just a little further' feel. The turn based combat is also surprisingly deep, with its non-linear initiative system and resource fuelled abilities on your troops, you always find yourself challenged. Especially so considering every blow that lands on your troops will cost you precious repair components and medicine. A milk run mission can quickly turn into a resource sink if you're not careful when and whom you engage with!

From a raw gameplay perspective MWO is a 10/10 game. It hits the mech piloting sim nail right on the head. No other game captures the feel of a battlemech like this. However it's a shame its managed by the devs so poorly. Sadly the game is dwindling, and that's due to very little effort to keep the non-gameplay assets modern. By far the biggest issue the game has, and from experience I can say this, is it utterly new player unfriendly. Want to get your friends into the game? Well good look. Only the most stoic will still around to unwrap this game's full potential. And so, because of this stagnant long term player base its slowly dwindling away. Large portions of the community can be fairly toxic in that glorious neckbeard way, which just adds another layer of NOPE for any would be players. Its a shame, it really is, as it has the potential to be a far more superior game.

It's a shame Steam can't allow a more diverse rating beyond just a thumbs up or down option, because it truly deserves two ratings.

I'm totally addicted to this game. To finally get a digital version of the classic Battletech tabletop game is a real dream come true. I dont often get invested in single player games, but this one has got my attention. There is some rooms for improvement but the devs have already said they'll be addressing these in not too distant updates. If you're a fan of turn based strategy, mechs, and the rich Battletech lore, then grab this game!
