Ohboy what a month this has been, I wondered all this time if the game was as fun as reading and watching all those videos about it, I loved seeing it all from my priviliged spot, as someone who did not buy this game up until a few hours prior to this review.

So believe me when I say I know everything there is to know about the missing features, the hype, the dumb zealots both defending and attacking the game.

Fun Fact
When I bought and installed the game (it took me 5 minutes, it is a short package), the moment I started it and my In Game icon revealed me, I got almost instantly hit with friend comments on both sides! It was amazing, "omg you got that crap?" "oh look at that, flame on the game but play it!" (I did enjoy a bit of trashing on the lies and all, sorry, it was fun!)

So believe what you will, but My Little Big Review is as unbiased as it gets:


Invisible dude controls just fine, super slow, but fine, camera looks weird at times because I think those amateurs at Hello Games didn't create a character at all, they created a screen with a gun strapped on the side.

The Ship controls very badly, but not because of how you control it, I think the port thing hit here the hardest, I got a gaming mouse and no matter how much I cramp up sensitivity (my mouse was practically moaning at one point), it still feels slow thanks to its controller based constraints, and why the hell does my ship tilt so much!
This is an important flaw, because you are going to do about 50% of your gaming on this ship and you cannot sightsee comfortably if you are fighting with the ship all the time you want to move it.

My PC is good, how good is it? Good enough (i7 4790k, 24g RAM, Win 10, MSI parts working together), I had no problem setting the game in its highest settings, good frames, keep it mind, as I write this, the game already got 4 patches that mainly hit these areas, and yes, it's still true, the game occasionally drops FPS for an instant or when you are in areas with a lot of moving particles, its not game breaking, but damn it feels bothersome, like an occasional itch on the middle of your back, it goes away on its own, but ♥♥♥♥ I need to scratch it!

Changing in game settings did not fix that, it's a problem with the engine itself I believe.


Breaking stuff apart with your lazer toy feels great, sounds great, and plays great, the consequences of it, not so much.

You depend so much on your ship's inventory, especially at the start, that invisible umbilical cord takes so much away from what could be a very intense survival experience, yes, you could force yourself as far as you can, but, would you? Your inventory fills so quickly you keep juggling your ship inventory with yours to have space to craft or fuel things, that keeps you close to your ship (there is a range limit for sending and getting items from your ship), upgrades taking active space in your inventory is the stupidest idea!
I felt punished by my swimming upgrade taking that precious slot while my planet has almost no water around, on the right circumstances, that would have been a thrilling survival factor, but that won't happen in No Man's Sky, destroying your findings is something you will need to get used to, it could have been great, but nothing in this game is at risk or rewards you for making those choices really, who cares if I trash stuff, I'll eventually find everything again so long I remember to eat carbon and avoid mild dangers.

All this designs accomplish is adding to the chore factor, and no, mining and gathering themselves are not chores, they start to feel like chores when your own dumb limitations play against it.

Oh btw, if physics bother you, don't play this game, when you break down a big pillar by it's base, and instead of seeing the rest fall down like a tree, you see the stupid thing still float there uncaring, you are going to lose it.


I have a real problem here, people say you start in a random planet, that being the case, why do I feel like I'm playing in exactly the same planet every Youtuber started? The same events happened to me too, the animals were different (roughly), that's how I knew I wasn't playing a scripted starting planet.

See the problem is not the procedural crap itself, the problem is what you do with it, and you have to direct this procedural generator in some way! You can't leave it entirely random, and when you have to fill 18 Fawktillion planets, even a thousand variations will end up repeating over and over and over, mathematics bro, this is Hello Games fault, they limited the wrong stuff and left the wrong stuff unchecked.

The planets had to be completely random, so you could get exciting planets, who cares if the planet was just gas or Gilligan's Planet, with just a tiny isle and the rest made of water, everyone knows the Universe is filled with that kind of crap!
But not the animals, you had to apply some restrictions here, I encountered a stupid dog like animal with 6 legs, the two in the middle were hooved legs, the others reptilian, what the hell? It looks dumb, if feels like No Man's Sky is the garbage dumpster of all the failed monster designs rejected by Spore players, sure, some are bound to look cute, mathematics again, and yes, their AI is simplistic and dumb.


At the original 60 bucks? No way, how many hours you pour here should not be a factor, a game should not be granted automatic approval because it takes you 200 hours to play it, and the real content in ths game is sadly not value for that purchase, this applies to every game, not just AAA garbage, If I buy a $10 dollar game and it fails to deliver, I won't forgive it because it just costed me that.

I personally had fun though, all things said, my two hours went flying, and I never left the planet because I knew what was out there, and what awaited me, so I took my time and enjoyed all I could from my little starting planet.

I ended up getting a Refund for this game, but as I said, there is joy to be had and future patches promise much, I'll definitely get it back when it costs 20 bucks at most.

Try it, don't be afraid and try it, two hours is enough to get an idea of the game, if you hate it by then, refund without any guilt, its your right, if you do enjoy it past that, you could get about some 40 to 90 hours of entertainment out of this game, but keep in mind, everything about the lies is true, everything about the repetitiveness of the game is true, the combat sucks, yes, the port is terrible, if steadily being patched, but the other things are also true, it is relaxing, it is colourful and pretty, exploring works for the most part and the music is good.

I understand and approve not wanting to give a dime to Lie To Me Sexy Murray and his team, as a graphic designer, I loathe everyone who uses hype and marketting and takes advantage of them to gain extra money they don't deserve, I hated it in Mighty No. 9. I hated it in Colonial Marines, and I hate it here.

But this game has redeeming qualities, and if you are above the media, above the hype train and above your own expectations, you will get joy from this game, but as you would with any other game, temporarily, to a normal gamer, every game runs it course, I eventually got tired of Team Fortress 2, Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Left 4 Dead, those are all great games, and nobody will ever blame them when they are done with them.

Solid 7/10 if you get it at 20 bucks or less.
Solid 4/10 if you get it at 60 bucks, yes, the price matters guys, accept it.
