If you're looking for co-op skip this one. There's a bad bug that's apparently been a scourge to it for some time yet remains unfixed. Upon a run completion which takes just over two hours from launching the game the second player will lose all items and be deleveled a bit. Instant repulsion and guaranteed to ruin any feelings of fun you may have been having up until that point.

As of patch #4 the game can finally be considered worthy of release status. As of patch#4 I've also changed my review from thumbs down to thumbs up.

The core gameplay is good. It's a lot of fun and feels good to start mastering and getting better in. The crafting is in and finally adds an endgame worth playing.

Very enjoyable. Feels complete and early access in this case simply means more stuff being added. Good variable challenging difficulty. Struggles you encounter feel fair and while often punishing also feel rewarding to overcome.

Game is good. 47hrs in and based on the ingame encyclopedia I'm probably around 75% done the main story. I almost skipped this game when I saw mixed reviews on day 1 & 2, I'm very glad I didn't. I'll try to tackle some of the complaints that led to the poor initial rating.

-This game combat/exploration first and farming secondary, though not distantly, ~1/4 of my typical day goes to my yard.
-This is definitely more expensive than similar semi farming games. I'll still get my moneys worth and have no regrets picking it up at full price.
-Combat is simple but fun. Lots of job classes each with their own upgrade trees is welcome.
-Farming control feels good and is satisfying. It's mechanically simpler than the RF games, but it does it well enough that it's not painful or annoying to do. RF farming is janky, I don't know if I can even go back to it now.
-The upgrade system for the farm works well, you got your typical build stuff upgrades from a carpenter, but you also have a lot of upgrades through a book you unlock via story progression. The book requires a large variety of crop and other stuff get done, and works retroactively, and trying to work on it helps you see which crops or tasks are more worth your time later on.
-Map is large with a good variety of places to visit and they generally all look good. Graphics are superior to similar games. More than a few times I've stopped and just looked around at the scenery.
-Character customization is basically non-existent, closest you get is the different jobs classes have different outfits, but only in combat regions.
-Fishing sucks. Push button, wait for splash noise, push button again, the end. Play on your phone or something while doing it or it's mediocrity will be extremely painful.
-Lots of side quests and companion quests. Enjoyed them at first, but at some point I wanted to start skipping them, especially if it's a character I couldn't care less about, but I cant.
-You backpack is spacious, with even the first upgrade to it you can comfortably klepto your way through a zone. Your house storage is unlimited, and shared with scattered crates around your farm for access to it, this is big, lining up 10+ chests in stardew valley always felt crappy. Stack sizes are usually generous as well.
-In game encyclopedia is halfway there. It's missing important info such as where to find X monster or item or fish and more importantly what they can drop. Sometimes crops tell you what they can be used for, other times they don't.
-Your "shed" is a mansion bigger than any other house I've seen in game. It comes with a large chunk of land including a cave system, waterfall, and cliff side paths. Your "boat" is a submarine. The terminology is off, but it continues to make me laugh.
-This game has my favorite unicorn. It takes the one from Gravity Falls and fleshes it out into a more complete package.

Possibly the best grand strategy game I've ever played. Ridiculous amount of content and scope in it, you wouldn't think or know it's early access if they didn't tell you it was.

This game is good, complex as possible with so much stuff that it's a bit overwhelming, but it's growing on me more as I play more.

I played through the tutorial first, and it was a bit lame and I wasn't feeling the game but I learned a lot. I almost dropped the game then, but I'm glad I didn't. First real game I was hot garbage, messed up everything, mistakes everywhere, but I had far more fun than I thought following the tutorial. Second real game I'm actually holding my own and standing up to the normal AI and I feel great at how much I improved and discovered about the game.

The various resources that affect production is amazing and was completely misunderstood or even known to me for the first 5 hours I played it. The orders are a good system that makes you prioritise what you want to do. Diplomacy is actually good here, far better than any other 4x I've played, it gives you tangible benefits and really doesn't demand much of your time or effort, but it is quite hard to actually remember to do it every 2-4 turns. Scouts don't suck! Most games you explore for a short time and then delete them for wasting upkeep and being completely useless, here they can be an active part of your army to keep tabs on what's going on, and later in the game they act as spies building networks in opponents cities so you can see what's going on in them.

The depth of the systems here and thought that went into how they all work together will make me wish for it when I play any other 4x. I hope future games in the genre look here for inspiration on inovative ways to make 4x fresh again.
