In this case, the answer lies somewhere in between – it’s a shame there’s no neutral rating option. Dying Light 2 offers almost everything on a larger scale: more characters, more abilities, more weapons, a bigger map, and more quests. But does that automatically make it a better game? In my opinion, no. The sequel doesn’t surpass the first game, and that’s precisely because of this overwhelming amount of content. Repetitive tasks like “go there, grab something, and come back” (e.g., the library, witch missions, or delivery quests) quickly become tiresome. Similarly, challenges such as “run from point A to point B” or “clear out yet another copy-pasted GRE building” feel monotonous.

The main characters are numerous, but half of them are unlikable, and the other half are forgettable – you won’t even remember their names after a while. The open-world structure doesn’t suit the game; instead of delivering a unique zombie apocalypse atmosphere, it feels like a cheap knockoff of Assassin’s Creed. While parkour is present, the controls aren’t particularly smooth or intuitive. The countless collectibles and crafting mechanics feel unnecessary and underdeveloped.

The game’s atmosphere is weak – it fails to evoke the intensity of a zombie apocalypse. The story is unoriginal, lacking tension and twists, and feels entirely predictable. Despite the promise of branching narratives and multiple endings, most decisions have no real impact on the plot or the world around you. Environmental reactivity is non-existent – your actions don’t change anything. Whether you save someone or let them die, clear out a shop from zombies or leave it alone, nothing matters because everything resets within minutes. This lack of consequence negatively affects the entire experience.

The game feels overly stretched out and would have benefited from being at least half as long but more focused. Overall, it’s an average title that fails to live up to the potential of its scale or the developers’ promises.
