One word: Garbage. Sorry, but if you re-release a game in 2020 it has to run properly on Windows 10. I didnt even get it started, always crashing with or without notice. After 2 hours of messing around with gamefiles, start settings and Rockstar Launcher (why is this thing even there?) I decided this is not worth my time. Got a fast refund though (thx Gaben). Didnt pay much for it, but Rockstar should not recieve a single dime for this bs.

I am editing this review as they have introduced a solo ranked mode. The bots are still annoying, but one has to live with that I guess. Still the best battle royal out there.

R.I.P. PUBG! (7.2 killed it)

I really really loved PUBG. Accumulated around 1200 hours over the last 1.5 years. I think that speaks for itself. Everything that was (legitimately) critizised by the community (low performance, game crashes, disconnects, cheaters etc.) could not stop me from addicting it like hell. Even the annoying fps-drops that came with the update in January were only a short drawback concerning game fun (though they exist to this day). Man i loved this game!

But Update 7.2 ruined the entire game. I cant believe it. Everything that was great in PUBG vanished. They completely changed the matchmaking system. The reason for this is still beyond my grasp. If you look at PUBG over the last 6-12 months you see a lasting drop in the number of players. There was a die-hard core of PUBG addicts (like me) who have played it for quite a long time and therefore became quite good at it. That meant newer and occasional players had almost no chance to aquire a decent amount of kills, let alone win rounds. Also notice that PUBG never had a functioning ELO-System like CS:GO or others.

The fact that the learning curve is so steep and the game doesnt forgive the slightest mistake means you have to invest vast amounts of time and concentration, but thats what the long term motivation of this game is about! With every encounter, with every death (no respawn!) you learn. You constantly have to improve, refine your movement, your peaking, your timing between shots. And your decision making (which position to play, when to cancel a lengthy confrontation and so on). And if you do so, you will finally see success. You win your first round and its like heaven. You will fail against god-like players and improve further. And then you get to the point where you win rounds on a regular basis (at the end almost every day in my case) Boys, thats PUBG. "Blood, toil, tears and sweat" as Churchill said. And nothing else.

Now Bluehole wants to sell their additional game content (season-pass, skins etc.)..continously. So they want to increase the player base and attract occasional players. What do they do? Do they fix the game-braking bugs etc..? No. They decide to ruin the game. They fill normal matchmaking-rounds with bots! With BOTS! Bots which are so harmless its ridiculous! If you dont want to play against these, you have to play in ranked mode (which came with this 7.2 update). But ranked mode doesnt distinguish between the size of teams. THERE IS NO SOLO! You play alone againt teams up to four(!) people...its so unbalanced and frustrating. And thats ranked which is there to allow comparability between individual players strengths!? That doesnt make any sense! They changed other things too. Now every single room in a house is full of ARs and SMGs. Why? Thats was one of the lurs of Battle Royal. You couldnt know if you would immediately find a weapon at the spot you went down. You may land on an AK or end up with a pan and flash grenade. And the person which got down with you as well! Thats the thrill!!! Now its gone...Its another game!

I deinstalled it yesterday. RIP, PUBG! You brought fun, exaltation and satisfaction like no other. Unparalleled, at least in my case.
