Honestly, I can see this being the next predecessor to Super Smash Bros.

This game is smooth, and the game feels very nice. For someone who's always been bad at online Smash Bros, I can seriously hold my own in this game. There's nothing too gimmicky except for a few bugs, and in lieu of making this too long... I guess I can say that in the current state this game is in, for a fighting game that's very reminicent of Super Smash Bros, this game is "fair". I use the word "fair", meaning that I feel for veterans and newcomers alike, a lot of times the matches can feel pretty even. Also, this review is before the ranked mode, so veterans and newcomers will also then get an option for separate experiences.

Game is strictly F2P, and you can unlock every character for coins, which are earned by playing the game. Can use cash in the game, but only for the Battle Pass and cosmetic currency, (Battle Pass has a free version too, so you're not missing out entirely.)

Choices of characters are stellar. With such an outlandish franchise to me when it comes to games, the roster will only 100% get much more unique and unpredictable, all in a good way. The kits for the characters very much fit their style of what and who the character actually is. Harley's kit feels very much... Harley. Iron Giant is literally a wall, and hits like one too. Velma has sass written all over her, (literally).

The sounds also deserve some short recognition. The characters also have a lot of internal dialogue that's heard by everyone in the match. The voicelines are funny, clever, and bring out the best in your favorite icons. There's also special dialogues that happen whenever there's specific icons on the field. If Shaggy and Velma are in the match, they'll share special voicelines that only occur if they're present. It can also occur between two characters from different universes as well. Such as Batman and Shaggy, that talk about sandwiches or something, and one between Stark and Jake, where Stark just "cannot believe she's being beaten by a strechy dog". The music is soft on the ears. It doesn't drown out the fights, and serves exactly as what it's title should be, "background music". The maps dictate whatever music plays, and in alternative ways. The Scooby-Doo map music, for example, makes it feel like it's Scooby-Doo, if that makes sense.

The maps are simple. This one is in the eye of the beholder in whether or not that's good, or bad. Each map is sorta just a simple: Main ground, maybe a hole, and a couple platforms for the most part. A couple have destructable walls, but I felt nothing was very noteworthy. It doesn't bother me too much though, because it just makes the fighting better in the longrun due to non-existing stage hazards.

Oh, and lastly... NO LAG. I've absolutely zero issues with this. Smash Bros. for me was just unplayable at times due to the lag, as I've never taken the online fighter scene seriously in the first place. There's been a couple hiccups and an error or two, but that's almost like finding a needle in a haystack compared to Nintendo's online service for their fighter.

All in all, my expectations are blown away. So far, the game seems very fun, and a fair matchup. I really do see this being the younger sibling to Smash Bros, and to take the baton sometime during it's lifespan. Maybe not now, but sooner or later. Other games tried their hand at Smash-likes, such as the Nicktoon Fighters game that flopped. Very glad this one turned out alright.

One of the only games I've played of recent times where you DON'T want to hit the end game.

Utter garbage.
