Worth getting in EA

I have 2x hard copies but still bought this the instant I saw it.
Would of done the same if it was £25 instead of £2

Absolute Gem, still as much fun now as it was in 2004.
Easily one of the best RTS's ever.

EA are more trash than ever, didn't even bother to fix for Win11,
Didn't even bother to fix for widescreen or modern resolutions
Didn't even bother with the dozens of fixes the community already made.

Don't worry, still works (just).
But if you use Genpatch, its like new.

Simple but good

I like the realism

Its good. But not amazing, at least not yet

6/10 could become and 7 or 8/10, depending on what else is fixed/added.

Gameplay is fairly standard team play with simple objectives, and base building for extra flavour.
The theme however is what gives it that edge to push the game above average. But, the incompleteness, optimisation issues, and limited missions drag it back down again.

Needs more missions and variation
Needs equipment (skill) trees expanded
Needs to fix the gimping issues when you get in 'close' combat.
Some other technical issues, like lag when climbing ladders.

Its still fun, probably going to put 50/100 hours into this even if nothing else is added/fixed.

Looks like a game that should cost twice as much

8/10, would've been 10/10 if it had characters & story

Cosmoteer, is as instantly and perpetually as engrossing, as Minecraft crossed with Homeworld.
In addition, it has more settings and functions on Early Access release, than a five year old Paradox strategy title.
There's even an automatic Gif making option!

Labour of Love is how many great games have been described. But that's not an adequate description for Cosmoteer. This is a labour of obsession. Both for the developer, and for the players too.

It go boom

A good game has; lots of fun parts, and very few faults.
A great game has; faults, missing parts, and you can't still can't get enough of it.

Distant Worlds 2 is Great Game.
It just has a lots of things that need adding/fixing:

• Better music
  
• Longer research tree & infinite research
  
• More control of galaxy generation
  
• More unique race mechanics
  
• Customisable races
  
• More unique race ship components & weapons
  
• Disappearing ships & other glitches
  
• More view controls
  
• Clearer troop/ground combat settings
  
• More spectacular events + structures, to build/discover

I expect many of these features will be added over time.
But even without them, DW2 is still lots of fun.

Dialogue and instructions are missing from widescreen.

No FOV or resolution options either. So if you have a UW monitor (Many people do) then part of the screen is permanently missing.
