There are a lot of games trying to be Battlefront 2, but amid all the dross, Battlefront 2 stands out from the rest.

HoMM distilled.

Baeutifal chilled-out strategy game. Build your city build your army explore, discover and survive for 50 years.
Tedious tactical management has been removed, instead all units attack automatically in order of threat proximity, but with some Rng. Use your forplanning to get the upper hand.

Like Tooth and Tail, 50 years has taken a popular strategy format, and removed the tedium and the micro, leaving you just the crucial decisions, and a theme thats second to none.

Love the music, love the art. This is a very simple, baeutifal, and fun strategy game.

Simple but deep RTS.

Easy to pick up, and somewhat dull at first, but it soon warms up and really stretches you strategic skills.

Like a simplified Sins, but with a scripted campiagn thats worth playing.

After playing and loving Xcom Eu, I was so hyped for Xcom 2 that I pre-ordered.

Big mistake.

Xcom 2 is amazing don't get me wrong, Firaxis have kept everything good from Xcom EU and added a whole bunch of new things to give added depth to the strategic map and base building. They've also made alien encounters much more fun, alien squads will roam rather than waiting for you to find them, and there is more mission variety and more tactics available with new soldier types etc..

And lots more, including mods like Longwar which adds tons more replayability and new mechanics too!

But, even so, I regret pre-ordering. The DLC and bonuses offered were not worth it, whats more I had to wait nearly a year and then chase keys through different vendors to get all the bonuses (which were crap), and after all that I still don't have the resistance warrior pack (which is crap too, but its the principle of the thing).

And now there's a new DLC that might be worth getting and it costs as much as the original game!

TLDNR
Xcom2 is great.
Most Xcom2 DLC is Not.
Xcom2: War of the Chosen might be good, but it's way overpriced.
Don't pre-order, not even for great games, not even for good publishers.

There is a decent game buried in here, but its hard to see it beyond the hamstrung strategy.

The Steam page shows this game to be free, but there are the ever present microtransactions.
Compared to game like Robocraft, GJL does offer a little more strategy, but its still hamstrung by the potence of having the latest tech, and by how easier it is to get that tech if you just spend a little more money.

Day 1: small learning curve - its ok

Week 1: lots of free extras - Great fun winning lots

Week 2: All the free extras are running out, unless you spend loads of money - Kind of annoying, I'll just have to be better with the average equipment.

Week 3: Loosing a LOT more, I wouldn't mind except the repair charges are cripling me, cannot get ingame money cannot buy better stuff.

On the whole a good FTP game, But this is pay to win, not by huge amount, but its noticeable. Repair charges are extremely unfair as they greatly penalize bad players, and stop them getting better equipment, which only makes the skill gap that much wider.

I consider myself average at this,
with the good equipment I win more
without it I definitely win less.

This is a straightforward 4X, done really well.

Don't expect any major innovations, just expect to enjoy it.

Early access still has some rough edges (some descriptions missing limited number of races) but still plays very well.

Help

I'm playing Istrolid and I can't stop.. I discovered it last night about the time I should've been going to sleep, and now I've racked up 9 hours already ..... and its addictiveness shows no sign of abating.

Its a free, incredibly addictive, and there are no microtransactions, just tons of SP and MP fun..
I think someone has it in for me :(

On the bright side the ambient noise (music ?) is a bit annoying, but other than that, theres nothing else to make me stop playing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 days since I discovered Istrolid, 28 hrs played... things are getting worse.
