Was hoping for more looting/crafting; doesn't really deserve the "roguelike elements" in its description. Very much just a regular space combat sim. If that's what you're looking for, great; if not, move along.

There's 3 ships to choose from, all fighters, with varying shields vs hull. There's a couple weapons/devices/consumables, but standard shooter fare - hitscan lasers, non-hitscan shotguns/machine guns/etc, doing varying shield vs hull damage. Upgrades are pretty simplistic - more shield vs hull damage, lower spread, etc. Sure there are resources to be collected for upgrades, but it feels very much an afterthought. The perks for each new run are outright upgrades (more health/resources/etc), which simply means you're artificially handicapped on early runs. And there's essentially a "soft" time limit for each map keeping you from fully exploring.

Controls are also more like a 3D shooter, with forward/back/strafe/roll, as opposed to throttle controls (like the X series). Makes you feel more like a guy in space than a spaceship.

Could be fun if you're looking for an arcade shooter. Not for me though, refund requested (a little over 2hrs, hopefully steam will let it slide).

tl;dr This game could be awesome if Ubisoft decided they'd actually try.

I really wanted to like this game. The combat is legitimately fun. The single player mode isn't bad. There are balance issues, but that's not surprising for games like these. But game stability is an issue that simply can't be overlooked, and lack of developer interest in admitting these issues even exist is irredeemable.

The always online requirement even for single player is stupid. Fortunately I'm always online anyways.

The gear effects need some balancing, but that can be adjusted.

The connectivity I actually haven't had an issue with; it can be bad, yes. Lag in a fighting game ruins it. I get game-altering lag maybe one in 15-20 matches. Not bad really. And mid-game freezes are probably a once every ~2-3 matches (excluding when someone joins or quits). If this were the only issue I'd complain but it'd be forgivable. Dedicated servers aren't a new idea, and Ubisoft's refusal to use them is inexplicable, but the gameplay could potentially be enough to offset it.

But one of the main game modes crashes at the end of the match >30% of the time. Right at the very end, after you've just played a 10 minute game, but right before you accrue xp/currency/loot/objectives, thereby wasting the last 10 minutes of gaming. This happens 3-4 matches in a row on a daily basis. It effectively makes the most lucrative game mode (from an xp/currency standpoint) unplayable. And despite being reported on the official forums regularly, the devs refuse to recognize the issue even exists, instead relying on community managers to say "Thank you for bringing it to our attention! Please tell support and we'll look into it."

The other crippling issue is matchmaking. Which is to say there is none. You can be starting brand new and be matched with veterans, have a gear score of 0 matched against people with gear score 108. This makes for some of the most lopsided battles around.

fix your ♥♥♥♥ bethesda. skyrim. fallout 4. do you actually playtest any of your games before release or do you just put out the first buggy alpha build you can cobble together and stuff it full of microtransactions and overpriced DLC?

Pros
+Open world to play in, plenty of content
+Interesting equipment crafting & settlement building
+Many viable ways to play

Cons
-Bugs. Lots of them, some very serious-quest, quest line, or plot line breaking. Some of the serious ones have been present since game launch 7 months ago and are still untouched (and, with Bethesda's track record, will likely stay that way)
-Needs level cap, as all character builds can eventually max everything. Plus enemy scaling is bad at very high levels
-DLCs generally give less bang for your buck than previous titles
-Achievements disabled if you mod, which would be fine if not for the aforementioned bugs

Will probably be better in a year or so, when a bundle edition is available on sale, GECK has been out for a while to fix the things Bethesda is too lazy to, but still a fun game in its current state

Early Access Review
Pros:
+Decent graphics
+Not pay2win, though plenty of grind needed for the good gear
+Interesting abilities

Cons:
-Serious problems with netcode & hit detection, even for servers with <10-30 ping; some shots on stationary targets don't register, some kills register 20-30 seconds after, typically ~5secs, still inexcusable for a shooter. Needs a MAJOR overhaul, but knowing nexon, server upkeep is a very low priority
-Very limited content - only a handful of tiny maps, split among 3 game modes, May improve as time goes on
-Class differences limited to high cooldown abilities, making each class identical for all practical purposes after you use your ability once
-Game mechanics favor suicidal tactics, run in and die

Bottom line: has potential in the future if netcode improves drastically, otherwise nothing else really matters

Update 4/9/16

Checked back to see if any improvements had been made, but found quite the opposite. As with many similar games, WT involves unlocking aircraft, then using that aicraft to unlock upgrades for it. These upgrades used to take on the order of 5-10 matches each to unlock, or $2-3. And these upgrades dramatically improved the performance of the vehicle, to where fully upgraded aircraft would often have 300% (yes triple) the climb rate and 10-20% higher top speed, far more damaging and accurate weapons, etc.

Gaijin has now taken to removing upgrades that had been previously unlocked, increasing the number of research points required to unlock them, and decreasing the research point gain for gameplay, effectively increasing the cost of each upgrade to 20-30 matches each. Again, these are upgrades that some people may have paid premium currency for. It would be the equivalent of Steam deciding you didn't buy a game that had been in your library for years, removing it from your library, and making you pay for it again to play it.

Outright fraud. Do not support this company. Do not give them money. If you buy digital goods from them, they will remove those goods without refunding your money.
