Hyper Light Drifter Review
light

Hyper Light Drifter is a pixelated RPG adventure game set in what seems to be a post apocalyptic setting in an alternate reality. Its a great game with an interesting story and incredibly entertaining combat. It took me roughly 12 hours to beat normal mode.

Story

One of the reasons I love this game is because of how the stoy is told to the player. There is no voice acting. There is no text or character dialogue. After the opening cinematic nothing is revealed to the player and its up to them to discover the story on their own. Durring the adventure, you can talk with certain NPCs and they will shed a little bit of light on the story through a recent event or even prepare the player for things that may lay ahead and they do this with a small picture or series of pictures depicting the event or foreshadowing. Not having character speach or dialogue really makes you feel like someone whos not from the world.

Gameplay

To me, Hyper Light Drifter feels a bit like Dark Souls meets Zelda with its chalanging combat, puzzles and open world exploration and progression. Combat is intense and requires quick reaction times and precise button presses with a variety of unique enemies all with their own combat patterns. Exploring the world between combat is nice because it encourages the player to stay alert and keep a sharp eye out for hidden locations with collectibles or extra loot such as keys and skill upgrade points.

Bosses are a lot of fun to fight. They are challenging at first but with persistence and perseverance they are able to be over come.

Pros
  • Rewarding combat
  • Exploration
  • Incredible setting and story
  • Great pixel art
  • New game+
  • Amazing music and ambiance
  • Collectibles

Cons
  • Made me cry at the end
  • Not long enough

Conclusion
- 8/10
I have never written a review like this for a game. I highly recomend this game if you are into challenging games such as Dark Souls. BUY IT!!
