Great RTT with a fantastic campaign, modular upgrades for your units, your troops carry over to the next mission and gather exp.

There a few choices that can be made, which slightly alters the campaign.

I've been part of the MoW community since the release of the original Men of War in 2009 and as rather big fan of the series, I've followed the development and evolution of the series rather closely.
While this series and it's spin offs were plagued by low quality releases before, this entry is for me so far the most disappointing one.
I'm going to explain why, but beforehand some of the few good things I've noticed:

+Setting; Early cold war is rarely seen and definitely refreshing

+Sounds; From weapons to explosions, this game sounds much better then previous entries, just the soundtrack is quite lacklustre

?Performance; While the switch to 64bit is supposed to improve it, I couldn't really notice anything of it. SP seems indeed to run more smoothly, but all MP games were unbearable laggy despite good pings and powerful computers, I guess the time I've spent with the game just isn't enough to jugde it properly.

Now let's go on to the bad things:

-Asset recycling, this game still uses the same animations like in S:HoWW2 (2004). They look ugly and out of place with the rest of the game, same goes for voice overs, many textures, trees and so on, atleast some map props seem new.
The new props however come at a steep price of only 5(!!!) maps. No game in this series, (maybe no RTS game what so ever) had ever fewer maps then that

-Just 2 factions, while 2 factions would be usually enough for release, in this case it isn't. Equipment choice is small and the way the factions are designed makes them too similiar, especially if you're used to the "Big Five" from previous games, where each faction offers more options and variety on its own then the 2 factions in this game combined

-Campaign, wow, just wow. I'm more into competitive pvp anyway, but this game advertises itself by offering a "dynamic campaign" and at this point this game becomes scam. The "Dynamic Campaign" is just MP matches on said 5 maps, against AI.

However said AI is basicly non existent, all the AI is able to do is to spawn units with way points to the middle of the map. No joke, thats it. Really. You can observe for e.g. AI lining up vehicles in front of the middle capture zone, without ever intervening and moving. Don't bother with this game if you're even remotely interested in SP.

As someone who owns nearly every title in the series, I looked forward to this game, especially due the setting.
But this game is definitely the last nail on the coffin for me and I came to the realization that DMS isn't heading anywhere with the series be it for a lack of funds, competence, or both. There I will avoid any of their products in the future.
So who ever wishes for a proper MoW Sequel like I do, has to hope that either Gates of Hell or Soldiers: Arena delivers, because Assault Squad 2 - Cold war does definitely not.

sincerly,

ZERSTROYER

Quite a good game, once you got used to all this japanese weird ♥♥♥♥
interesting story line with some more or less foreseeable plot twists, can also be emotionally engaging (atleast when you're gay weeb and care about toaster feelings)

It's a action rpg at it's core, but you will experience elements of other genres aswell:
side scrolling space shooter
jump 'n run
japanese softporn

pro tip: play the game atleast twice
