This is such a great successor to the original Alone in the Dark and I absolutely recommend if you love story games, regardless of whether you played the originals. I remember playing the demo back in the 80's and then at some point later I got the full game. So many concepts were just difficult to implement in the limited space there was, but THQ has taken the series to a new level while STILL retaining the original dark mystery feel. The game play has lots of interesting throwbacks to the original games as options, so you can choose to participate or not based on level of difficulty; e.g., limited availability of ammo and "hard to find" clues. To be fair, the original game was slightly harder than some other titles that were soon to come out around that time (although many games around that time made clue-finding one of the most challenging aspects of the game, so I won't say it was any harder than most that were developed around the same time or earlier). But it's 2024! Good to have options for all the gamers of various skill and attention levels!


About the story and level design: I swear there were some elements that seemed to be taken straight out of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Shutter Island. These aren't bad elements to have, but I do feel that it is a missed opportunity to create an originally compelling story or puzzle mechanics. The talisman puzzles get particularly repetitive in Chapter 3 with constantly referencing the same diagram.

Amazing story experience. Some parts are difficult without a controller; a keyboard and mouse user might have to make multiple attempts during chase scenes. Overall I'm really glad I played it.

This is such an innovative style of game, and it's really fun. I'd describe it like a CARpg, but it's not all just about the car; there are challenges on foot as well as in driving. I played through the demo a bunch and knew it was going to be awesome. The game has a pretty interesting story, good character development, and quite a lot of novelty for just being something that doesn't get much attention in other games (and is implemented really well).

Definitely fun and relaxing to deconstruct something. Worlds better than SGS1, but I think these games are showing the relative inexperience of the developers. It is much better after the 5/2024 physics update, but still some residual bugs; the development team has done a decent job even after such a long time in development, and should be able to figure them out. Definitely grab if you see it on sale!

Don't let the cutesy graphics fool you, this has some serious survival elements to it. While the defaults are tuned for more casual or younger players, you could definitely have a more hardcore experience very easily. Many of the game play elements remind me of Conan Exiles (dust storms, random attacks, etc...).

I love the aesthetic; it's relaxing and rewarding to be able to restore a dead world, while also maintaining the challenge.

While this isn't a terrible game, and does have some value in fun, I would say don't actively pursue it. There are some known bugs and the studio has stated in the forums that due to development team changes they won't be doing any bug fixes. Maybe grab on sale as part of a bundle with SGS2, but by itself it's extremely meh.

The game missed a lot of design potential, and most of the ship is not destructible (which is odd for it being a game about destruction). There's only 1 hazard and it's used so infrequently it's hardly worth mentioning. The ships don't increase in puzzle complexity, only in the tools required and the number of rooms/items to clear.

It really gets tedious fast.

This is a really cool game, and not just for the Robin Hood theme. Don't be expecting Assassin's Creed level of character animations, but it's way better than decent enough. There are a lot of little things that are nice like arrow target collision, slowing time, nearby sense highlight, custom assassinate/execute animations, and superb voice acting that make playing it really enjoyable.

Amazing game! The story line is great and fits well with the first one; the game mechanics are mostly improved over the first one as well. Love how your submarine is configurable to how big and what modules you need.

Definitely worth playing if you liked the others in the franchise. Great storytelling and gameplay, even still if the graphics are a bit dated.

I had a hankering for a modern D1/D2-esque game, and this really fit the bill more than some of the others on the internet.

Pros:
  • The story line and world-building are really well-developed.
  • The online features can be ignored if you're not into it.
  • Lots of classes and specializations.
  • If you want social interaction, the community is generally more helpful than not (as long as you're not asking for handouts).
  • Lots of challenge modes, like Solo Self-Found and Hardcore.
  • Lots of content types: PVP, Delves, Maps, etc...
  • GGG always coming out with new content (Leagues are like free time-limited temporal DLC's, some features make it back to the core game when they're done) and Microtransaction sales (which is how you support the game since it's free).

Cons:
  • The passive tree is too complex, it's very easy to brick your character.
  • Limited re-specification ability, once you get bricked it's hard/impossible to fix; may require deleting and re-rolling your character.
  • It's very likely your first character will be a brick and then you have to delete it; which means you can't get attached to your characters at all if you like to RP in your head.
  • It's impossible to even finish the main story arc without looking up builds and gearing your character just right--this is the kind of thing I would expect for endgame, not for regular story mode.
  • Too many types of content, it becomes difficult to figure out what you should be doing; you also have to build your character specifically for such content in some cases.
  • Much of the content is leftover from previous leagues and not worth the investment for rewards, meaning it is essentially dead/useless. This game is VERY old, so there's just a lot of historical baggage.
  • Latency is inconsistent on the servers regardless of which region you are playing in; you can be fine in one area and have unplayable lag spikes in another.
  • Moderates are too strict about chat. People get muted for anything that is remotely or out-of-context viewable as political or offensive. But the types of offensiveness matters; you can say lots of horrible things, have offensive names, etc... and then randomly get slammed for something less offensive. I saw a guy get a 1000h mute for telling another player his gear was terrible.

IMO: Wait for POE2, this game is not worth the investment at this point.
