X4 is probably one of the more complex things you can consider "game". It's pretty much like playing MS Excel in space...or...Crusader Kings...but without medieval stuff...or dynasties...or grand strategy and in space. It's complex. Complicated at times but mostly full of stuff you can do. After you get through the rather steep learning curve that is.

But IF you get through that learning curve, you're in for a ride. There's trade, exploration, combat, asteriod mining and a really nicely simulated universe full of strange aliens, factions, missions and sandbox goodness. You can choose to become a freelancer, build a trade empire...or any empire for that matter, become a merc, a pirate, whatever. Fly solo or own huge fleets of civilian or military ships, completely up to you. It's vast. And that's a good thing.

Graphics are decent (although explosions look kinda meh without mods). Depending on your playstyle you might find yourself observing and managing stuff on the strategic map, so yeah at least for me after a while the graphics stopped being relevant.

Contentwise it's really good. Maybe not as much as previous X titles...well...except for that last one where you only had that one flyable ship with that stuipid name...
However the DLC and several mods really add up to what's already in the game.
