To answer your questions: A) They suck except in MvM because their random suddenness makes battle planning a joke.
B) Because unlike your cover-based shooters, the value of each is in novelty of image, sound, and motion, not butter-smooth, well-controlled gameplay, and so the value of each wears off fast. Luckily, they're cheap, so I never feel like I need to stay loyal.
