Exploring for exploring sake gets old after a while.
But base building, farming, looking for special planets with unique resources, exotic/living ships, etc... definitely makes the player more invested in the game.
I would definitely nerf the exotic ship spawn rate though, since I already have 5 after a couple weeks playing. Maybe make a super special set of exotic ships spawn very very rarely or in very special locations
