A beautiful and competent 3rd person action game

It didn't do enough with its strange setting
  • I was expecting some impossible non-euclidean geometry, but everything is pretty static. The most it does is moving some basic shapes around, which is still pretty impressive in its execution, but I guess I just wanted more.
  • A lot of humanoid enemies and not enough strange creatures.

About the gameplay
  • You can't really do anything creative with the abilities like surfing objects - they're mostly just used as a means to attack and defend yourself.
  • While I did have fun during my 50 hour 100% completion playthrough, I probably won't play through it again for a long time, because in the end, it's just a 3rd person shooter.
  • Despite the fact that its gameplay loop gets repetitive near the end, it's probably still better than most 3rd person shooters.

About the graphics
  • The graphics are really pretty. Raytracing is so impressive that I would be looking at a reflection of a room on a window set against a black background thinking there were more areas to explore and dash through it, breaking the window. And I was even more impressed that reflections weren't baked - they were all dynamically rendered.
  • The rendering engine makes even brutalist architecture in an office setting seem vivid and otherwordly.

Overall, I'd recommend it. And If you do play it, try to slow down and read all of the documents, because there are some secrets in this game that I had no idea how to solve without using a guide and I think it's because I skimmed most of the written material. If you're trying to do a 100% completion run and can't get things like "Niche Position" to unlock, try reloading the last mission.

12 Hours played
I'd definitely recommend playing it. I always find myself coming back to play this game after I've finished it.

Pros:
  • The soundtrack is great and it definitely fits the tone of the game.
  • Great gameplay
  • Nice retro aesthetic
  • Replayability

Cons:
  • Bad hit detection when you're using guns up close
  • Some masks are bugged and still haven't been fixed yet
