The last Doom masterpiece.

Ill preface by stating that the graphical style in this game is beautiful, unfortunately...it goes downhill from there.
The first like 10 minutes of the game is extremely disengaging and a bitnof a slog, where it really isnt a game. Its a narrative setup but displayed in a way that just frustrates the player. Im ok with cutscenes of story elements to kick off a game, but 10 minutes of half forced slow walking and half slow animation, where the transitions are not even clear...it just completely draws you out of the game and was a huge turnoff.
When the game finaply does start the movement feels ok, and you learn your new abilities and the progression felt nice. The metriodvania style of backtracking with new abilities wasnt awful to start but the game got unclear fast. There were lots of frustrating bits where it doesn't feel like you're dying because you did something wrong, but for something on the games end, which is not fun.
Overall i was so excited for this game from what id heard about it and the look of it was gorgeous. Unfortunately the product i got was a quick refund after ultimately having next to no fun while playiing it.
Do not recommend.

This game has some good things about it that overall make it recommendable, but is far from a perfect product.

1) Being an RPG, I expect a loot hunt and a feeling of solid progression with my gear and weapons, but that's just not there in this game. I used 2 weapons nearly the entire game, and only changed out my gear(of which you only have 2 pieces anyways) 2 times tops. None of this felt exciting, since it was all literally the same gear that all of enemies were wearing, so it was generic and boring.

2) The companions were powerful in combat, and the special abilities were nice, but they are just soooo far behind what other companies like BioWare have accomplished. None of them stuck out as anything particular exciting.

3) The world...or rather chunks of small worlds...were ok. The aesthetics were nice, and I got a Bioshock feel from a lot of it, which i really loved. Overall the world seemed big enough, but nothing in it seemed particular stand out. Exploration wasn't there a whole lot since there wasn't any reward to doing it.

4) Character customization felt kinda rough, since numerous mandatory things required certain skills in the game.

5) The overall story is pretty weak. Big corporation bad, separatists corporations all want help to succeed because of this. It's enough to move the game along, but not much else.

Overall, the game is good enough to keep you wanting to play more, but this game isn't going to be something that sticks around in your brain for years to come, and I can't see myself wanting to play it again, even to try out a new build.

7/10 Well made, solid gameplay. Buy it if it's on sale for cheap and you'll get some quality hours from it.

Free weekend got me hooked on this game.

The game worked fine, sounds are good, and is visually appealing. I just could not get in to the gameplay for this version of doom. I liked the original games, they were groundbreaking for their time, and the Doom 3 reboot was wonderfully filled with horror and immersion. This game however, just felt like a cash grab on the Doom name. It was endless rooms of the same enemies, and it got repetitive in no time at all. I kept waiting for the moment the game would change from generic to the experience i remembered, but it sadly did not.

Still only 23 hours into the game at the time of this review, but i just had to throw something up because of how much i'm loving this game. What i feared would be a tedious adventure after reading and watching reviews about having to learn everything, including basic reading, I am happy to say that this game truly is one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences i've had in an RPG. The world feels so real, and the omission of the typical fantasy setting really helps solidify the fact that this is a historic based game. I really didn't think i'd love the game as much as i have so far, and if it only gets better moving forward and has a solid ending, it could easily be near my top 10 games of all time.

All that said, the game isn't completely without issues. You'll have some bugs here and there, and early on you'll feel like death comes at a brisk wind, but the more you stick with it, learn the ins and outs of how things work, and really put your time into it, it is a great experience that i'm happy to continue.

It's free and a good way to spend a solid 20 or so minutes. The puzzles were by no means difficult, but it was fun for the short time you'll end up playing it.

Great little game to play in a short sitting. For as little time as the game stays, it gets you pretty well invested in who the characters are. Well worth the download as a free game.

One of my top 5 games of all time, the entire game with combat and the incredible storybuilding, this game is just a masterpiece. I had not played any DLC or Awakening on the Xbox 360 version when i first played, so i've been playing through the game again, this time as a rogue instead of a 2h warrior, and the game feels totally fresh. There is so much replayability between the 6 different starts, the multiple classes and specializations, and choices really matter. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves RPGs, or wants to try one out for the first time.
