I also just finished RE4 Remake (4 times lol) and I'm loving RE8.
RE kind of re branded starting with 7. They wanted to breath new life into the franchise and bring back the horror aspect and I think this is why they went first person. Overall, I wasn't really a fan of it.
The old RE and new RE are very different and I found that I had to detach myself and shift gears to play 8. I actually played through the intro then put it down, decided I didn't like it. This weekend I came back to it and its simply amazing.
It runs incredibly well for me and looks great. I agree that the story is lacking but I would give it a 7/10 maybe.
BUT coming off the tail of the RE 4 remake will be quite a shift in both game play and overall atmosphere.
