5/5/2024: UPDATE - Major Order Completed, Sony HQ Liberated. Although Arrowhead likely had a bigger part in the drama to play than they let on, ultimately they and Sony made the correct decision to not require linking to PSN. I'm happy to say that I am currently re-installing the game, and looking forward to many dives in the future.

5/4/2024: I would never have purchased the game if I knew that I would suddenly have to link a PSN account. I don't have one, and will never create one with a company that has such a bad history of data breaches. On top of that, its scummy AF to suddenly tell me I will lose access to something I paid for if I don't sign up for your stupid account.

And don't tell me it's trivial: If it's trivial, then why are you making a trivial requirement?

This is like buying a BMW, then a few months into owning it and driving it every day, they tell you that in a couple of weeks that the vehicle will cease to start if you don't create a BMW.com account (likely so they can advertise to you on your in-car screen or some stupid ♥♥♥♥).

On top of all this, the community managers for the game in Discord have been pretty tone-deaf and the best advice they've essentially given us is that if we don't like it, to stop playing/get a refund.

Say less. Game uninstalled, refund requested.

Thank the Morninglord for BG3

Maybe it's just that most of the modern games we have to compare this to are so bad, but BG3 is AMAZING. Feels like The Witcher 3, or the original Mass Effect games in how complete of a game/experience it is, but the scope is FAR larger. And its FUN.

No day 1 DLC, no microtransactions, just a complete, full game that isn't an absolute buggy mess. In over 60 hours so far, I've only crashed twice, which seems pretty stable to me - again, especially when compared to other games that use LAUNCH as a beta test.

Are there things I'd tweak? Sure - but most of them are cosmetic/QOL things like being able to highlight/drag multiple items over to the shop at once. I imagine these will be patched.

Is it true to its DnD roots? Mostly. There's definitely some things that they had to change a bit to make it work as a video game, but overall its more or less plug-and-play with a DnD rules set.

My current rating of this game is 9.0/10 - here's what would get it close to 10/10

What I'd like to see:
-Even more robust support for modders and developer console.
-A RAW (rules as written) mode for DnD purists. This means removing things like adding guidance after being asked to roll, or spell durations, or items with new mechanics like lightning charges and wrath, etc., removing all of the revivify scrolls, etc. Make all of these options when starting a new game.
-QOL changes like the shop thing I mentioned above - just things that can be a bit tedious.
-I think loot and looting in general is the most tedious part of the game. I'd like to see fewer "random things that I have to sell 50 of", for example: goblin shortbows/scimitars. Sure, drop a few, but I'd rather most of the goblins have a bit more gold and fewer items that I have to send to camp.
-More spells that are cannon to DnD (Absorb Elements, for example?) Backgrounds and Feats as well - like Elven Accuracy would be lovely, etc.
-I assume that the door has been left open for at least one expansion. If not, we need content to take characters up to level 20, and possibly even "epic level play" after. Same goes with expanding Races/Classes/Subclasses.

Bottom line for me:
Larian Studios has produced an absolutely fantastic game here. Not only that, but they've done it as a smaller studio, and not produced a buggy mess, with day 1 DLC and microtransactions. Because of that, as well as how fun the game is, I would highly recommend this game, even if you're just trying it out, or have never played a BG game or DnD.

If Larian does come out with any expansions for this game (as well as future games) that are even close to the quality of BG3, I will gladly buy them and support developers who clearly are passionate about the project and want to just make a great game.

Early Access Review
The core concept of this game is amazing, and I really hope another dev comes along and makes it correctly. As it is, it's nothing but a huge money-grab from Daybreak. It's in EARLY ACCESS, yet the only updates they do are putting new crates in.

- This game is buggy and glitchy as hell. In 10-20% of my games (not exaggerating), I encounter a common bug that makes the game think you're stuck inside a vehicle. If it happens while parachuting down, your parachute will dissapear and you'll fall to the ground, unable to move or perform any actions. If it happens while you're in a car, you'll suddenly exit your vehicle for no apparent reason, but be unable to move or perform any actions. In both cases others see you in a vastly different position to where you are on your screen. This is only one of the many bugs that will ruin a game.

- Alt-tabbing often causes the game to crash (probably about 15-20% of the time).

- A bug that seems to come up constantly (like ~50% of games) is that suddenly your voice chat won't work, and you can't hear any voice chat.

- Queing as a team is a nightmare. You can't invite non-friends, and if you're not the person who started the lobby, you can't invite anyone. There is no chat/voice function in the lobby. Furthermore, oftentimes when joining a queue, some people won't get it, putting half the team into the game and the other half still on the lobby queue. If you've died and you exit the game, you stay in the group but have no way of knowing who is alive still and no way of knowing when everyone is ready for the next queue. Every game starts with, "Is everyone on the main screen?" followed by, "Does everyone have a queue?"

- Oftentimes players crash on the loading screen.

- Inconsistent spawn times based on loading give some players a HUGE advantage.

- FPS is often low compared to other games, even on high-end machines.

- There is no spectator mode, a year after it was promised.

- Hit registration on this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful, especially if the person is moving. The lag compensation doesn't work well either.

- There is no region/language lock, leading to the Chiners. Because of the way the game's lag compensation and hit reg works, if you have a high ping it benefits YOU. A lot of people from China play on the NA servers for that reason, and they teleport around like Nightcrawler, making them almost impossible to hit.

- There are quite a few cheaters in this game, with cheats ranging from aimbots to ESP, etc.

- The weapons/items balance ranges from inconsistent to bizzare.

- There are relatively few different types of weapons and items. There are a fair amount of grenades, but the grenade mechanics are horrific. There are two rifles, one shotgun, and a revolver that are viable weapons. There are only 3-4 other pistols in the game, all of which are non-viable other than in the first 1-2 minutes of the game. There's no weapon selection, no choice, nothing. They need to add things like SMG's, or at least weapon attachments to spice up the boring AR/AK meta. Melee weapons are laughable, even in the beginning stages of the game.

- Gun/item spawns are completely imbalanced. You'll sometimes search 2 houses and find *zero* weapons, whereas sometimes you'll search one house and find 3 rifles and a shotgun. Also, weapon spawns are TOO frequent, especially AR, AK and shotguns. When I spawn and land somewhere and search a building, I should be EXCITED that I just found an AK/AR. Currently, if I spawn and don't find an AK/AR within the first minute, I'm upset.

- Grenade throwing mechanics are horrific. The biggest issue is that they take up a weapon slot, and to use them you oftentimes have to manually switch them; this is a nightmare in the late game especially. To use them in the middle of a fight, you have to open the inventory, switch the grenade (and each type of grenade takes up an additional spot) with the weapon, and hope you have enough room in your backpack to put your revolver in it, otherwise it won't switch. Throwing grenades is also super-clunky, and needs a lot of work.

- Car mechanics are stupid. Usually, if you're on foot, and someone in a car sees you they will drive at you as fast as they can and then exit the car while it's going 50mph. They *instantly* exit the car, and often they will suddenly just appear in a place that the car just drove past. Because of this, they gain a huge advantage since they are already aiming at you, but you have to guess where they will pop out. Also, the fact that they can exit a car going full speed with zero downside is a huge oversight in game mechanics. They should have a split-second of vulnerability or at least take damage. The lategame typically becomes everyone in a car zooming around each other like sharks, waiting for someone to accidently flip their car. There should be a mid/late game EMP that kills all cars.

- Sound is very inconsistent. There are times when an enemy will suddenly be very near you without you having heard them approach, and there's times when you'll hear them a mile away.

- Parachute mechanics are awful.

- There is only ranked for solo. Ranked for duo/5's needs to be implemented.

- Lack of game modes/options. There should be multiple maps, night/day mechanics, options to change weapon/item spawn amount, and maybe EMP. When you queue, and get to the loading area, it should indicate a RANDOM map, then ask players to vote on night/day cycle, spawn frequency, and EMP. Majority wins.

- There is no meaningful way to train or test. The "training" server is a joke, and the weapon, item and car spawns don't re-appear, meaning you're going there to get next to zero items, with 30-50 others. There's no way to put yourself into the map and, say, try the sniper rifle out alone.

Until they start actually making meaningful updates to the game rather than just cosmetic items for the money grab, I cannot recomend this game, or devs that treat their games and their customers this way.

CS:GO Review
I have been playing the CS franchise for over 15 years, and I am sick and tired of the absolutely inane development and support of CS:GO.

Valve refuses to listen to the community, professionals, etc., of CS:GO, and make the most ridiculous changes to the game. They have constantly nerfed rifles, guns which take actual skill to use, for literally no reason - meanwhile all other guns that take less or no skill to use get either buffed or stronger by comparison. They ignore issues with balance, and add absolutely insane things like the new R8 pistol, which literally breaks the game. It's almost as if they don't even bother testing their changes.

The game itself has a huge amount of bugs that never seem to get addressed, or at least take forever. For example, two weeks ago, there was a bug that appeared out of thin air, where you couldn't "accept" a match. It took them nearly a week to fix it (and some players still get it sometimes). There are tons of absolutely ridiculous mechanics as well, ranging from bunny-hopping, to jump-scouting.

The R8 pistol is a whole other can of worms. This gun was added to the game without any warning or any community engagement, and it literally breaks the game. It is a 1-hit-kill, no-skill-required-RNG gun that has made me stop playing until the gun is removed or massively nerfed.

Valve has made an estimated $250,000,000 from game sales of CS:GO alone (http://steamspy.com/app/730 estimate of 17.6 million copies sold, assuming $14.99), and makes tens to hundreds of millions per year from the market, and yet they can't give us:

* Adequate development and support for the game.
* 100+-tick competitive servers (casual has them, but competitive doesn't...wat?)
* Bigger prize pools for professional games. The small prize pool leads to a lot of people saying it's not worth it, but also a lot of teams throwing matches because the skins they gain from betting against themselves are worth more than the winner would get.

Until Valve at least begins taking steps in the right direction, and at least *tries* to engage the community, I cannot and will not recommend this game.

EDIT: Although Valve reversed the rifle nerfs in the December game update (and nerf'd the R8 somewhat), that is only damage control for something that should never have happened in the first place. I will only revise this review to recommend the game if Valve starts to actually fix the game based on what the *community* says, and actively engages us BEFORE making big changes - not in a reactionary manner.

Single player campaign is great (especially with mods). Online is absolute ♥♥♥♥, however. Tons of bugs, imbalances, hackers, etc. Also, the entire system for multiplayer is incredibly convoluted, unweildy, and difficult to use.
