I've play this game since it's incarnation at Americas Army Operations, but fell off for a while and recently got back in to it. Most of the maps have changed now and the game mechanics are a little different. However, this game stands the test of time. As a Marine Corps Veteran, I can honestly attest that this game truly has a high focus on realism. Its almost impossible to get it perfect, you can't simulate the feeling of your life being on a line with every step you take, but this game comes close. You heart will race while you sneak through a building, seemingly undetected, and then as you turn a corner, without seeing a thing, hear the distinct 'zip' and 'splash' of a bullet from a sniper as it crashes in to your skull.

This game is gone through many changes, but the general game play has remained relatively the same. It's not about a fast trigger finger while you run and gun, it's entirely about team cooperation, calculated and coordinated movement, and strategic choices.

If you enjoy some of the Rainbow Six games, then you will likely love this game.

Make sure you have a decent headset, as it is important to listen closely to your environment to know where your enemies are, as well as for communication with your team. (I can not stress enough how important good communication is).

I would give this game at least 20 hours before you start to understand the gameplay style and develop map knowledge (which is also important). But even still, if you are not a seasoned FPS player (or maybe even if you are), because this game has a small but dedicated community, you may find yourself with pretty awful KD ratio.

As for the community. It is small, only a few hundred players each day, but they are a dedicated bunch. Most people on the servers have been playing the game for years. This can be intimidating for new people, but don't be. I've found the community on AAPG to be relatively mature and supportive, because the game really depends on it to some extent. There are a lot of great clans that run high quality servers and monitor them for hackers, exploiters, and abusive language.

The graphics of this game won't blow you away, but they are decent enough to compete with AAA games. And honestly, the game play is way better than most AAA games these days.
