Despite it's appealing visual style and open world game play DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT was a rather large disappointment. When I first purchased this game I kind of assumed the controls and combat would be much like the combat in Xenoverse 1/2. However the combat is nothing like that, it's a one button attack mash from beginning until you get bored. There is a weird lag when selecting special attacks that really bothered me, and boss battles felt more an RPGs with phases and repeatable patterns rather than a fighting game. Navigating the community menu, and the skill tree/special attack menu were both very awkward feeling as well. Maybe someday I will come back to give this game another chance, but currently I have tried to get into this game twice and both times very much disliked it.

Don't get me wrong, the aesthetics and quasi-open world feel to the game were a huge step in the right direction when it comes to DBZ games. However, it just never seemed to define itself well as either a RPG or fighting game and felt more like a interactive visual novel most of the time. So steer clear of this game unless you are a huge DBZ fan and the game is on sale (like - 50% on sale).
