I love DayZ and have 300+ hours playing it, but it is always interesting to see a small project like Unturned come along and show it a thing or two (or three to 10).

Unturned already seems to do a lot right and boasts a very impressive array of features and content. Clearly the developer(s) have played the DayZ Mod and be heavily influenced. The graphic style might not be to everyone's taste, but once you get in and start playing and co-operating with other players, you soon forget the Minecraft style graphics and focus on the great mechanics.

Already, Unturned has lethal zombies that will hunt you down without clipping through walls. There is a serious need to find resources like food and water and medication, as without it, you will die very very quickly. This enforces a real necessity to explore the world and meet it's dangers. This can be done either on foot or by acquiring a vehicle - if you can find fuel and some working parts.

Once you've established a footing in the world, Unturned already allows you to build bases, barricade buildings, grow crops and hunt animals.

In terms of negatives the game would be greatly improved by having a game server browser built in. Hopefully this is something that will be added by the dev(s). Additionally, I can't help but think how much more successful this game would be without the current graphic style. I can understand the need to differentiate it from the crowd, but if the game followed a DayZ / H1Z1 / Rust style look, I'm sure everyone would have flocked to it and will have happily slapped down their $30.
