Social game where everyone who plays it is anti social or has to be a special snowflake.

With the $40 DLC, this game was absolutely worth every penny. I've gotten several hundred hours of enjoyment out of it, and I'm likely going to get several hundred more.

Story has never been a strong point in the Borderlands franchise, but the story for previous games has never been bad enough to get in the way of the gameplay. Playing this game will give you constant second hand embarrassment from the cringe-inducing villains they wrote for this already incredibly dated story. The villains themselves have no redeeming qualities, no motivation for doing what they are doing, and were clearly written to be bad because "tiktok bad". The way they handled the universe is haphazard at best, and degrading at worst. They changed the rules of the Borderlands universe in this game, at times to the point of nonsense (looking at YOU Tannis). Since my previous review, I am unable to play through BL3 again simply because the story is so bad I cannot stand it. Doesn't help that the cutscenes are completely unskippable.

Looting is less satisfying, as learning what each manufacturer does is less worth it now than it used to be. In BL2, each manufacturer had a gimmick they stuck onto every item they made. Pangolin shields reduced health for shield capacity, Tediore shields sacrificed capacity for speed. In BL3, you could get a Pangolin shield that increases your max HP, and comes with elemental nova capabilities that where BL2 Maliwan's signature on their shields. Same thing happened with grenades. You could get a Tediore MIRV Bouncing Betty grenade. It's obvious they made these changes to inflate playtime through introducing more grind.

You get class mods and artifacts long before you can actually use them. This crowds up the already small inventory in the early game, making the early game even more frustrating to play. Artifacts themselves are practically useless. Previously they gave buffs that increased stats like damage, ammo capacity, damage resistance, second wind time, etc.. Now artifacts are gimmick items that give buffs to the new movement system, like imbuing a slide with ice or fire damage. They're useless now.

At least the gameplay is absolutely stellar. The movement, gunplay, and skill trees are the best in the series. Additionally the early game goes by a lot faster than the older games, which was always the worst part about the Borderlands games. Borderlands 3 picks up the pace a lot faster than 2 or the Pre-Sequel, which is a welcome change. Finally, gun balance is closer to BL1, which means looting random guns from the world and using them isn't a terrible strategy. This was a major issue for BL2, which late game practically required you to grind legendaries all the time.

Unfortunately, none of this is enough for me to save the game. While previous games had a mediocre story, a mediocre story is a lot less noticeable than a bad story, and this game's story leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I hear the DLCs are good, but I should not have to pay additional money to improve a game I already paid $60 for.

The only possible way I can recommend this is if you have a couple friends to play it with. Playing with friends and taking the piss out of the story is actually pretty fun.

I'm a man who doesn't play singleplayer games very often. They're typically rather stale for me and I can't play them with friends, which is usually the appeal to me with multiplayer games. While Borderlands 2 offers this feature, I also found myself playing this game singleplayer rather often as well, which is a fairly uncommon sight.

To give a general description of Borderlands 2: BL2 is a shoot-n-loot game featuring 6 characters (only 4 of which are available without DLC) with varying playstyles. You have your Commando, good for general offense & defense purposes, though you won't find yourself playing any sort of defensive playstyle in this game. You have your Assassin, good for sniping and generally dealing lots of damage in a short time. You have your Gunzerker, great for sustained DPS and even tanking. Finally, you have your Siren, a very good support but can also dish out plenty of damage on her own.

To say the least about Borderlands 2, it's a fun game you can find yourself becoming addicted to thanks to how powerful you feel to become over time. Some characters are much slower when it comes to power gains, especially the Gunzerker. Others, however, are swift to notice the gains.

The story for this game is mediocre at best I feel. The legacy characters from Borderlands 1 add a nice touch, and some elements are unique to this game, but the general story for this game is a rather throwaway one. It's a story of a villain who is attempting to take over Pandora, and a resistance faction you are placed in, against this villain. Fairly straightforward stuff. There are characters in the story that give the game an atmosphere you can't find anywhere else though, and it makes the story for this game more unique overall.

However, to recommend this game I'd have to recommend the Game of the Year Edition due to the amount of DLC this game has to offer. Two playable characters are locked behind DLC, and so are a couple of side story lines and an entirely new difficulty level. To hide that amount of content behind DLC I feel is a bit of a money grab, but it's worth your money either way.

OK. This *free* game is additcting. It can't combat my addiction to Team Fortress 2, but it can keep you playing for a while. When you play this game, play with friends. I haven't tried the online gameplay myself, but my friend plays online and he's said that playing online is annoying and the player's tactics are bull. The devs are continually updating the game and they've been adding characters recently. I may not have many hours, but when I do play with my friends I have an absolute blast.
There are items such as spike balls, mines, explosives, magic horn things, and ofcourse the weapon drops. Its style of gameplay is like Super Smash Bros. There are many characters to play as and level up. Leveling up characters will unlock things like different color schemes for them, different stances (which can switch up the gameplay style of that character), or just coins.
Now, because of its style of play you need a controller to play better. While I haven't used a controller with it myself, my friends seemed to play a little better with controllers after they started using them. Basically, controllers are a must have.

Now as much of the game as I've seen I've has a blast with. You can get the occasional spike ball kill, which aren't very strong unless you double the damage, and will definately give you a chuckle. You have to come up with your own combinations with each character, which I thought was a good element instead of pressing a bunch of keys to perform one almighty move that will destroy everyone infront of you. There is a character in this game for many playstyles. Characters for a harassing playstyle (the one I like the most), tanking playstyle, the bull playstyles... Moving on.
*Begins rant about how his friend uses all the characters that 'don't' take skill*

I recommend this game with what I've seen. Play it with friends and you'll have an absolute blast.

I cloaked invisible and teleported behind someone and shot them in the head with the shotguns' right click attack.

10/10 would headshot shotgun again

Game is dead now. Dev introduced loot crates to replace cosmetics you could collect in the world, and that alone killed my interest in the game years ago.

It's a bit old now, but Team Fortress 2 will always remain in my heart as a shining example of what a team-based shooter should be. It's just a shame the game itself is now nearly unplayable thanks to the bot crisis, and Valve's lack of attention to the game in general.
