This game, which I picked up on the strength of recommendations about its writing, has what I find to be such painfully wooden, unengaging writing that I could barely finish the first tutorial battle before I quit in exhaustion. The story has some promise - it seems to be a typical "chosen one has to Save The World" framework, which I'm always happy for, with some potentially interesting specifics - but it is presented in a way that I could simply not get through.

The single combat I played - the introductory battle, basically impossible to lose - also seemed promising; the real-time-with-slowdown/pause is fluid and smooth, slow enough to feel like it would almost be managable without slowdown (at least on easier difficulties) but fast enough not to feel like a drag.

So, if writing styles don't bother you and that sort of combat sounds appealing, perhaps give it a shot.

A wonderful experience on all fronts: tight, responsive, and intuitive controls; wonderful level design; amazing music; lots of accessibility options.

An incredible feat - wonderful storytelling of a compelling story, framed in a puzzle-platformer action game, with tight and fluid controls, bosses with interesting twists, and exactly the right amount of time to relax between intense sequences of combat or puzzling. Every success feels like a triumph, and every failure has that "just one more time and I'll get it!" feeling.

A pointless timewaster of a connect-four game.

No, seriously, this is a fantastic game of automation and industry. There's an optional combat component which some people really enjoy and I just turn off. There's an amazing and thriving community of builders and extensive mod support. Cross-OS multiplayer is flawless. It's a good game, Bront.

Once upon a time, there was Refunct.

And then the murders began and that's how we ended up with Q-Bert.

No, really, it's a beautiful relaxing short little platformer. It's like Clustertruck, if you were Johnny Appleseed and instead of trucks and madness there was restful music and strange little cubes. I hear tell there's speedrunning, and I can see how that might be a lot of fun, but I was pleased just to get half an hour of enjoyment and respite from the world.

Gold. A tiny ninja. (Phrased that way, it's a selling point to a very specific set of people. But it is a tiny ninja.) Death. Respawns. A highly consistent physics model and tight controls. Amazing community content. Everything N ever was, but even better.

As far as games go, this is not too bad. As far as parodies of classic gaming experiences, however, this is top-notch.
