Alpha 1.0 of this game was first released on August 16, 2013 for people who pre-ordered the game via Kickstarter or PayPal. The Kickstarter campaign was highly successful, all stretch goals were met, and $507,612 was rasised (more than double the $200,000 goal).

Alpha 5.0 was released on Steam on December 13th, 2013.

A Linux version was released on November 22, 2014.

PS4 and Xbox One versions were released in 2016 published by Telltale Games. Due to issues stemming from Telltale laying off most of its staff, those console versions were left to languish and "The Fun Pimps" had to re-acquire publishing rights.

In 2022 "The Fun Pimps" announced that they've hired external developers to port the games to Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5.

On April 20th, 2024, The Fun Pimps announced that the game would finally be leaving Early Access after over 11 years in development. But it seems like they are just going to call the current Alpha 22 version a "1.0" release, despite the game still being in what most would consider alpha or beta quality.

The "experimental" 1.0 launch was today, June 28, 2024 with the 1.0 "official" stable coming July 25th. Many features that were Kickstarter stretch goals have yet to be implemented, and the performance isn't where it should be (especially given the game's graphical fidelity).

Another thing I would like to point out, "The Fun Pimps" are already working on a new title called "7 Days Blood Moons" which is also in "Early Access" according to its Steam store page.

The "experimental" version's performance is atrocious; the listed system requirements should probably be updated. The gameplay is still buggy and janky, and the game's mechanics feel dated.

Having said of all that, I'm still giving this a positive review. Why? Because at the end of the day, what matters most is whether or not the game is fun, and whether or not the game is a good value.

Given the fact that I have several friends with hundreds of hours of playtime, and some with thousands of hours (who are still playing), I'd say it's worth $25 (my friend gifted me a copy). Plus, at least there are no microtransactions or DLC.

On the other hand, if this game leaves "Early Access" in its current state, I'm not sure if they can justify raising the price (as they announced they'd do) unless they also improve the quality and performance.

TL;DR
This is a 'tentative' recommendation for those who are interested and have friends to play co-op with. I don't think it's worth getting for the single-player experience alone.

this is the worst game I have ever played. The AI is absolutely garbage. I can have 3 teammates 5 feet from an enemy AI just plugging away, blood going everywhere, yet the enemy AI never dies (not a stretch of the truth in anyway sadly). The developers of this game did an awful, awful job. The story is absolute Hollywood garbage! THIS IS THE WORST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED! I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS FRANCHISE HASN'T KILLED ITSELF YET!!!
