it bangs

Update and actual review:

I took a break after act 2 after feeling pretty burnt out with the levels and mini-bosses. I mostly enjoyed my time with the game but felt like I'd had enough. Playing on Hard/Emperor's Mercy difficulty.

Coming back after the first major QoL patch and with a fresh mindset I went through act 3 in 1 go and had a great time.

The major differences were:
- Playing more patiently, as much as you want to fly around like an angel of death the enemy tracking and high speed attacks will swat you down. This time I played more like a cover shooter always being near a LoS breaker when possible.
- Experiment with different weapons on enemies. Many enemies have relentless attacks but can be locked into hitstun and made trivial. For example the Vengeance Launcher hard countered the Chosen enemies by locking them down and preventing them from ever hitting me.
-Find those secrets. Secrets in this game are direct player power not easter eggs. The bosses are balanced around these damage modifiers and boons. Don't waste time shooting your entire arsenal into a sponge when dmg boost + vortex grenade does it in 3 seconds. This goes double for the final fight which has all 10 secrets in the boss arena for you to ration.

Sad to see the top review so livid and recent reviews trending downwards. I think Boltgun is a great game with some flaws that is still an easy recommend. I'll definitely come back for any future content updates.

Really surprised with this game so far. Super flavorful and covers a huge swath of 40k's factions. Coming from Total War: Warhammer, this isn't like that as it has no battles or diplomacy. You just go into a sandbox and destroy everything else. Basically, it's quite simplified compared to contemporaries in the genre. That might be a plus or negative depending on what you want. The game also incorporates tabletop terms and mechanics seamlessly. The UI is pretty dated feeling and i hate not knowing exactly what I'm getting out of a research before hand. The DLC is priced a bit aggressively imo. So pick up the base game and 1 to 2 faction dlcs you're interested in while it's on sale. No opinion on super late game or general balancing yet.TLDR: If you like (or are interested in) the Warhammer 40k universe, or want a easy to play strategy game, i think this is one of the best games for that purpose.
