Note: i have over 365 days of ingame time, bear in mind that this is a "SHORT" review of the overall content in a game, there are a million things you can see in the game.

Build upon numerous updates, content and a share of controversies over the span of almost 20 years now, RuneScape 3 is the current version of the famous Jagex title created by the Gower brothers.

A unique system of Quests (not in the style of WoW or WoW clones, you don’t have quests in the style of “talk to NPC, kill 10 mobs, return to NPC for reward”), over 28 skills with Archaeology being the newest skill added to the game on March of this year.

Graphics are a sad clashing mess of ancient, new and old eras being fit together, you can find graphical assets ranging from 04 (Ape Atoll) to new and shiny 2020 plastic like a la Fortnite (Anachronia/Archaeology dig sites)

COMBAT, now here’s the most controversial and split mechanic of the game, back in 2012 the long standing form of combat was updated (Evolution of Combat) to include abilities such as basics, thresholds and ultimates with the use of adrenaline, you built up adrenaline with basic abilities and autoattacks and spend adrenaline on thresholds and ultimates (this is the basic of it), in a similar style of WoW but you can also use them automatically with the use of Revolution, you can set up an action bar with a number of abilities onto it and make it usage automatically, this makes combat much more smoother and friendly for new players and it’s enabled by default.

PVP is mostly dead aside from the occassional pker in the wilderness

Runescape has a free to play model with let’s you play a part of the game for free (lumbridge anyone?) which let’s you explore a good part of the world while doing some quests or train some skills, like Woodcutting or Dungeoneering. You can also test all members skills up to level 5 and Archaeology to 20!

The core content is behind membership in which you can get through direct payment via subscription or through the use of bonds, which you can redeem for 14 days of membership.

Content release has been on a steady decline, years ago, updates were brimming with content, such as quests being released almost on a monthly basis, in 2020 we only got 2 quests so far, one of those being based on a temporary mtx event.

There’s been an huge increase in MTX temporary events, that you can pay with bonds to skip most of it, even though you can complete it on your own.

RS has Microtransactions of the following:

* Treasure hunter chest – Basically similar to lootboxes that you can buy keys with real money, you can get free keys on a daily basis, DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS, YOU WILL FEEL SCAMMED.
*Solomon Store – Store that sells cosmetics, titles, emotes, pets, auras and other services with 2 currencies, One being Runecoins(paid currency) and loyalty points (Currency given on a montly basis based on how long you’ve been subscribed). Solomon Store also gives a freebie each month.
* Runepass/Yak Track – Similar to battlepasses in which you unlock cosmetics and small temporary buffs that can be skipped with the use of bonds.
*Bonds – Tokens that can be bought with real money, these can be traded to other players for cash ( Jagex own version of RWT) , can be redeemed for membership days from 14 days per bond, Runecoins, and other uses.

All this but not including the subscription fee.

Overall, if you’re a totally new player, you might be feeling overwhelmed after doing the tutorials, do not be overwhelmed by the settings and the UI, although being customizable it can be very confusing for a new player, my suggestion is to turn it to the legacy version. Take your time to learn things at your own scale, ignore MTX stuff. Do quests, explore the world, and train your skills.
