YES I RECOMMEND THE GAME
READ BEFORE TAKING ME AT THAT RECOMMENDATION

I've put off reviewing this game for a really long time. This is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a great game to drop in, play a few rounds, and drop out with no real longtime commitment, though by no means does that mean this is a casual game. The game itself has some major issues that the old timer community is really sick of and will rant to you night and day about. It's all true, for now. The devs just released a video celebrating their 100th update, and I'm sure it will bring some of the old timers around. It seems that Payday is ready to start fixing all the things they've screwed up about the game. The microtransaction system looks like it's about to be phased out. I say looks, but who knows. We still have all the paid DLC and there is alot of it. The paid DLC, all of it is unneccessary. Looking at the DLC, look at what weapons you want, characters you might enjoy listening to (Cause you'll get to hear their banter all day long) and any mask and materials that come with the DLC (Just be sure you think you can get the achievement for that stuff cause nearly all masks that come with DLC are locked behind achievements) before you go and buy it. The missions? If you don't plan on hosting every single game you play, you don't need the DLC to run that mission.

Now, Payday is pretty inexpensive at 20 bucks, but for gods sake, WAIT FOR THE SALE. I'm not joking. Payday 2 goes on sale more than hooker with stretch marks. Usually when it goes on sale it's about 5 bucks for the game, 7 bucks for the deluxe pack. Also wait for the sale on DLCs as well if you want them. Most of them go down to about 50 cents a pop. Seriously. If absolutely can't wait to play the game, I'd shy away from the GOTY edition, since you can grab all the DLC it boasts for under 20 bucks when a sale comes around.

I've focused on talking mostly about the game devs and the games DLC issue, and that's what you'll read about in most of the more critical reviews, but if you're reading this you probably just want to know what kind of game to expect and not what kind of issues with pricing you can exspect. So let's get into that. The game is a bit different from most FPS. The multiplayer is all coop. No PVP, just pure straight PVE. You pick a job which can range anywhere from 1 to 3 days (Each day being a mission which can generally last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour in length) and then once you got all four people needed for the mission, you get on your way. Before each mission you have a planning screen which allows some people to add some bonuses to the mission with your hard earned in game money. The game is paced around Bane (One of the Devs living out his dream of being Oracle from Batman) telling you what you need to do to complete the mission. Complete objectives while fighting hordes of police, SWAT, and thugs. Some missions are stealth and you can sneak around. Your skills and choice of gear will customize how the mission goes for you and your allies. Same for them. It's definitely a game of teamwork, and on alot of missions if teamwork fails, so do you.

The game takes a bit to get into. Some of the older players don't really have patience for newbies, but don't let that discourage you. Once you play enough to get your first infamy level, you'll pretty much have the experience you need to stop pissing off the more experience players. On the other hand, the experienced players will often give instruction on who needs to do what for a mission to succeed and following those instructions usually brings victory.

My absolute advice, play a few low level missions till you get up to about level 40-50, then go up to very hard or Overkill. Stay far away from Death Wish as you can until you feel like a certified badass. Then go back to Overkill when you realize you are not. Try and get to be friends with someone at least Infamy 5 or above, as they know enough about the game to help you out.

Infact, since I absolutely love this game, I invite anyone who has recently purchased this game to add me as a friend and I will personally (Given I have the time) teach you the ropes of the game.

TL;DR: The Devs have been screwing the game over for a long time, but seem to be intent on fixing it now
Don't buy this game until it goes on sale. THIS IS IMPORTANT
Game is great, learning curve isn't too bad, but it is easy to get discouraged at certain points.
Add me as a friend and I'll teach you how to play.
