Risen is one of the best games with awful combat I've ever played. I found a lot of interest in the moral ambiguity of most major characters. It seems as though whichever side I joined, I would grow to respect and resent the faction leaders and their choices for various reasons. Minor characters were also intersting, with a lot of the side quests tying into each other, I got a real sense of community. The whole world that the game takes place in is very well fleshed out and immersive. Exploring was always fun and rewarding (until you actually had to fight) with treasures and side quests hidden all about. I'd definitely recommend this game if you have the patience to deal with bad (although not game breakingly ♥♥♥♥♥♥) combat. The characters, the world, and the story are well worth it!
