First off(pun intended), the game is still good as a game. However, it not good as a remaster of OFF the original.

The soundtrack change though necessary , ruined most of the games atmosphere. I might be biased since the original soundtrack was one of my favourite albums in general, but there wasn't a single second where the soundtrack added something to the game. It felt more like an afterthought if anything.

What would be a welcome change in the form of the updated gameplay, visuals, and sound design also removed a bit from what to me OFF was at it's core. They made the experience feel more like a game. I know the irony of making a game feel more like a game, that's what they are after all. However, OFF felt more like a spirit that caught itself in a RPGMaker file than a regular game. The default RPG Maker menus and visual interface in general caused every detail that was strange or different to stick out. The fact that items were usually flesh or meat, how strange the dialogues were (especially with The Judge), the class names of Add-Ons, it all felt strange and nonsensical. It engaged with our assumptions of what a game is and how it looks, twisting itself into the uncanny valley.
With the new elements, OFF feels a lot more like just a game. It's too polished, every mechanic is too purpose made to make it feel like more than a game.

It is exactly the sum of it's parts, and nothing more.
If you can, play the original, it is a much better experience/
