I honestly could've written a positive review right off the bat because the original is damn near perfect.
TL;DR: If you were on the fence and leaning toward it, this will win you back, anyone else: either give the original another shot or stay away.

For those unsure if you want to return, here are some highlights: You can import your old save (I didn't and recommend you don't). The new equipment options and when they're presented radically changes the difficulty curve of the game. Previously, early large orders were extremely difficult to handle, terrain presented a much larger threat for much longer, Chapter 3 would take far longer and be a much larger part of your gameplay time than it had any reason to be, early combat threats were much more frustrating, I could go on for hours. Director's Cut is both an easier and better way to play this game. I completed it fully on PS4, I'm fairly close to 50% or more total completion on PC. There are extra tools at your disposal for combat (extra moves and attacks, new weapons), there are new vehicles and quests that add to the game significantly, and honestly, with all the new content, it feels like a sequel short of a new map and story. If you loved the original, you'll like this more, if you were on the fence and leaning away from it I don't know/think this will bring you back, if you were just almost on board with the original, this will convince you.

I've been playing the Director's Cut with a Dualsense (PS5) controller, and that adds an additional level of enjoyment and engagement. Highly recommend picking up such a controller for just this game (and because it's a good controller). Kojima Studios really went above and beyond (as they typically do) to make use of the available hardware in unique ways.
