Paying fifty dollars for a filler arc expecting some gamechanging expansion is totally my fault but I still feel pissed about it regardless

EDIT: Saltiness about Garden has come and passed. You ever reread something you've posted a couple days ago and think "holy hell, I sound like a whiny prick?"

Not a very good DLC. Pales in comparison to the rest by a large amount.

The DLC doesn't have many enjoyable things to do, save for the raid which still has pretty subpar loot. Story missions are a slog, dungeon is pretty mediocre, not a very fun experience the majority of the time. By the end of the campaign, the story hasn't evolved much at all.

I liked the encounters in the raid, Sanctified Mind is a nutjob and a half but you'll probably get a kick out of it, unlike me on my first run.

Good handful of the exotic weapons are pretty good. Few of them can be acquired from the kiosk in exchange for materials but two weapons in particular require some puzzles to be done in the dungeon/raid.

I'd give it like a 5/10. Aside from the raid, everything feels pretty boring.

The final boss of Afterbirth+ is perhaps the most infamous boss in roguelite history and a continuously running joke within the Isaac community. It does it all: teleports on top of you, randomly loses half of its health and then gains it back again, hitscan laser beams that come out of nowhere, etc. It has a billion health and you will only ever beat it by chance. Truly, a masterclass in video game design. It even sucks in the card game-- now THAT'S dedication!

I want to get out of the way first the fact that I'm not big on Sandbox games. I don't find the gameplay loop to be very enjoyable, since most of the time the only reward I receive is the 'satisfaction' that I made something nearly pointless that only serves to help me build more things in a game solely about building things. This obviously ties into my (lack of) enjoyment with Space Engineers but there's a couple more factors to this game that make it not worth it.

I initially bought this game to play with friends. Collaboration softens the workload and makes playing a little less tedious and boring. Problem #1: The netcode/multiplayer runs pretty badly. By the time you manage to get your footing in the world and build a pretty sustainable base you'll run into a multitude of issues that'll severely hinder your ability to play. This includes but is not limited to invisible holes in the ground, making ore mining (especially with a vehicle) nigh-impossible. You can get around this by having one of your tech wizard friends host a dedicated server off of a seperate machine he happens to own, but this requirement is severely dampering.

If you're able to get past that and play the game normally you'll find that you'll be spending most of your time digging up rocks and then using those rocks to build things so you can mine more rocks. Problem #2: The core gameplay loop just isn't that engaging. The game does offer combat both with your standard rifles and spaceships but I never saw that aside from your typical wolves and giant spiders after 60 hours of gameplay. I assume it just serves as another way to get rocks. Survival Mode is pretty bad, I wouldn't recommend it.

The game rarely receives updates aside from $5 DLCs offering some new decorative items and skins. This might as well be what they consider a finished product by this point, which safe to say is a pretty disappointing one. I wouldn't recommend this game unless you can tolerate sandboxes better than I can, but even then beware that there's not much you can accomplish here, other than building something that looks cool.

The End Is Nigh (an incomplete review)

Only 10% of the way through the game apparently (3 hours in) and I gotta say, man this game is a tough cookie. It's probably the most difficult platformer I've ever played, when you take into account the bonus cartridge levels and such. It's a very solid mix of Celeste and SMB, borrowing the artstyle and difficulty of Meat Boy while having cartridges and tumors to collect like the former game. So far it doesn't seem that any of these collectables are required for progressing the main storyline, however the cartridges do unlock neat little bonus levels to test your platforming skills.

Many aspects of the game are pretty solid. I definitely recommend it for:
- the music
- the trademarked Edmund McMillen artstyle
- the difficulty
- various bonus levels to collect and play

So far I've haven't had any major issues, save for some levels where the tumors are located in really confusing spots. I definitely recommend this game if you're into platformers, and particularly enjoyed Meat Boy and Celeste.

This is easily the worst thing I have ever played within the last year or so.

This game has been the worst thing to ever happen to my time and my wallet. The art direction and soundtrack is phenomenal but it plays like a 9-5 job. Costs you $60 every year to play all the content that inevitably vanishes when the next $60 DLC comes out. PvE is monotonous and PvP is an esoteric kafkaesque mess that makes me want to pull my hair out. Gambit's peak though.

If I ever touch this game again I'll be a stubborn failure of a human being.
