Some complaints I'll share first:
- The Fate route is quite a chore; if you've read any other Nasuverse work (ESPECIALLY Witch On The Holy Night) then you'll grasp the concepts of magecraft and the Holy Grail war quite easily. Unfortunately the visual novel can't know this, and 70% of your experience will be begging Tohsaka to stop explaining things you already understand.
- The 2012 Remastered soundtrack is kinda hit-or-miss. Most of the combat themes are a significant upgrade but it also makes the calmer pieces more "intense" which can get a bit grating. Compare "Magic Hour" from its original to its remastered counterpart if you want an example.

These complaints aside; the two other routes (Unlimited Blade Works/Heaven's Feel) make up for everything. Nasu's blend of slice-of-life and heart-pounding action scratches my brain just right, and the loose, easily abusable laws of magecraft that he's established ensure there's enough loopholes to keep a story filled with twists without any of them feeling like an asspull (or at the very least, an incredibly badass asspull).

All of the male Type-Moon protagonists I've seen this far (except Mikiya Kokutou, sorry) stand out from each other and Shirou Emiya isn't an exception. Extremely aspirational guy. Probably the most earnest out of the "Big Three," his interpretation of his own wish differs from route-to-route and forms the central theme of them. Of course, he's also extremely dense, so if you like that part of Shiki and Soujuurou (well, nobody's as dense as Soujuurou) there's no shortage of that here.

Currently reading through Fate/stay night and it cannot be said enough how much more engrossing Nasu's writing has become since that. I'd call this VN the perfect place to start reading Nasuverse works if it weren't for the fact that nearly everything you read after will pale in comparison.

This is the VN with Soujuurou Sizuki in it. Save it for a special occasion.

If you're buying this with the intention of playing on Linux/Steam Deck I cannot recommend this. Extremely jank. If you can get past the anticheat crashing on you at startup you'll still be unable to join other player's lobbies and you'll be locked out of Versus mode entirely. Get Darktide instead.

A lot of great tracks are locked behind an abundant amount of DLC, but you really only need the base game so you can play "We're All Gonna Die" by Paul Bazooka.

Heavy Rain is pretty stupid but it is significantly less stupid than Fahrenheit. Soundtrack is significantly less annoying, controls better, actually gives you time to think about dialogue options. There's a good amount of funny injokes and fun to be had by missing every QTE segment, but the more serious beats of the story are mostly lost to bland characters (except the GOAT Nahman Jayden) and David Cageisms. Fun for $7, definitely not for full price.

Fahrenheit goes from an exceedingly shallow character study to the most ridiculous and nonsensical plotline I've seen in months. It's like if Crash (2004) suddenly devolved into a Neil Breen remake of The Matrix halfway through.

Gameplay wise this is "interactive storytelling" at its worst. You have five seconds to pick a dialogue option and you're only treated with a vague Fallout 4-esque one-word description on what the option entails. QTE segments boil down to Simon Says gameplay which seems to have no correspondance with anything that happens on screen.

Might've paved the way for the genre but it also demonstrated how badly you could screw it up.

Dead Space 2 is the greatest thing ever invented since the invention of sliced bread. It is the absolute pinnacle of the entire sci-fi horror genre, across every form of media imaginable. Humanity peaked with Dead Space 2. All that's left for us now is to watch our world rot until we can no longer play Dead Space 2, at which point we will all collectively commit suicide en masse because there's no point in living in a world without Dead Space 2. 10/10, made me whole again.
