When you think of life-like video games what do you think of? Do you think of realistic graphics? Maybe survival games pop to mind. Maybe life simulator games such as the Sims. There's a lot of games out there proposing to be representations of life and yet most of them fail to understand a core quality of life.
Unfairness.
Life does not care what happens.
In this sense many games claiming to depict life in a way fall flat, most often because they adhere to general game design principals to make the game palatable to a wider audience.
Rain World does not care what happens.
Rain World is a world where you, the player playing as a slugcat, must LIVE in.
It is designed to be a cohesive world where life takes place, pure life, with it's unjust ways too.
In this way, I find Rain World to be one of the most accurate depictions of life in video games.
Much like the real world, Rain World is worth exploring. There is beauty and wonder to be found in both.
Through the hardships of life, there is inherit worth to be found for the effort one puts into living.
If you're willing to tackle a harsh world, much like our own, in search of betterment through experience or just for the pure experience alone. In search of the thrill and wonder of embracing an unwelcoming but beautiful world. In search of everything life has to offer, including the bad that comes with it.
Then please, give Rain World a try.
