I don't play games a lot lately, but if I do play I play an older game because game studios actually used to care with passion for their work back then. Baldur's Gate 3 is an omen to that time.

Half a million reviews, 96% overwhelmingly positive — I shouldn't write more, that speaks for itself.

Go play Baldur's Gate 3.

The game that revived gaming for me. 100 hours into this and I only just got ownership of my first towns and castles. The sense of progression in this game is somewhat slow but consistent enough to be fun, and extremely rewarding.

If you like sandbox RPG's where you decide how to play then this is for you. You start with nothing and build your character's skills and worth up. As you become more experienced you'll be able to hire more soldiers into your army, swear vassalage to another kingdom and fight alongside them in wars. Fight large scale battles and lay siege upon towns and castles, and as you gain renown you may be awarded lordship over these, allowing you to collect taxes and tariffs from trade. At some point you'll be so strong you may want to start your own kingdom; you decide who your allies in battle will be, and which kingdom you'll take their land from.

The modding scene for this game is huge as well. I haven't tried any personally because I'm still early into the base game (100 hours at the time of writing!), but these mods are so big that they offer an entire new game without paying anything. The themes and timelines differ as well, from guns to Star Wars. The possibilities are endless.

I just finished the main story on the GOG version of the game. Truly my personal best of the decade.

I was done with it after 5 minutes. Horrible framerate and awefully stupid AI did it for me. Shouldn't cost the price it is now...

Coming back to this after 2 years of not playing it, this is the only game that sucked me into a nonstop 5 hour long session. Gotta get the DLC now!

Oh man, one of the best games I've ever played. Very atmospheric. Around 15-16 hours of playtime if you take your time exploring and dying, hehe. I recommend playing in Russian with English subtitles, feels like a movie :)
