Maybe a 3 out of 5 carrots. The three smallest carrots.

It's definitely unique so they get an extra carrot for that. Love the pulp horror style. I like the overall theme. The narrative makes me want to continue to see what happens. A game of sowing fear and expanding influence was right up my alley but the gameplay is not as engaging as I had hoped.

I can't wait to buy this all over again!

Pan'orama is pan'orific!

The 3D aspect is cool. I like the big chunky buildings / landmarks when they appear. The multi-tile options that come up are a nice addition to this genre. It can be challenging to figure out where to best fit them in while not blocking out the bonus requirements for other tiles. The animals are cute, but kind of a gimmick. After a couple hours the novelty wore off and I didn't even think about them anymore. Even with the 3D element, there comes a point where I was playing with the map zoomed out as the width of the map grew larger.

So the big question on people's minds, is this a clone of Dorfromantik? No, it' s not. There's enough differences to be it's own game. Even the developers of Dorfromantik have stated this. Dorfromantik has tiles with distinct sides that impact scoring. In Pan'orama you have tiles that are of a type (up to 3 types or plains are wild) where facing doesn't matter. Then there are boosters where you're presented a choice of 3 building types with different bonuses. There's some light strategy in the placement of these to optimize scoring. The other differentiating feature are drawing multi-tile sets with varying numbers of tiles and types. These will often reward additional points if you lay down the specified number of tlle types next to it.

If you're looking for another tile laying / city builder game to pass the time, it might be worth checking out. Pan'orama is the more casual, relaxing gameplay of the two. If there's only room for one of these in your library, I would have to recommend Dorfromantik. Of the two, that's the more challenging of the two and the most polished as it's been regularly updated since it was first available as Early Access in 2021.

As an addendum to my original review, I started a new game of Dorfromantik to remind myself of the differences. I found myself wanting to play Pan'orama instead because it wasn't as complex. I found myself preferring matching the tile types vs. each tile side. As much as I'm fond of Dorfromantik, Pan'orama is better in the visual department, which I realize is 100% personal preference.

Stellaris is the best spreadsheet management tool for intergalatic domination.

Age of Wonders 4 has me feeling nostalgic for this game (and it's previous iterations) despite it's flaws. Hard to believe it's been 10 years.

Is it a good game? I think so. However, I'm not going to write a thousand word essay to justify my choice. I'm not in college, I'm not getting paid, and I'm not your parent. So sod off. :P

DLC for this game is an automatic purchase for me cause it's that good.

I give this a rating of five out of five plump carrots. It has a fantastic gameplay loop and exceeded my expectations.
