This game is a profound technical failure from a multibillion dollar company more concerned with protecting its profits via overtly hostile DRM than improving the user experience.

Certified Crapcom Classic.

Questionably balanced game that is ridiculously competitive, with players who will pubstomp you hard in 1v1s as warlock or druid (high gear score) or in 3v3s as wizard (also high gear score). On top of that, it's consistently broken, as if no patch is ever tested before it's pushed.

Beyond new exploits emerging month after month that disrupt the economy wildly, simple functions like retaining purchased cosmetics with per-season limited currency do not work, and players will inexplicably lose purchased races after wipes. Despite a drops campaign going on, it's impossible to link my account, so I couldn't participate even if I wanted to.

Steer clear, the developers don't really know what they're doing.

An incredibly ambitious sequel that attempts to not only recapture the magic of the original and fully realize what it was meant to be, but also improve upon it. Unfortunately, it somehow fails at both, creating a bland world with a litany of corridors that are hardly explorable, and is in no way as immersive as it claims to be.

The combat is the only thing holding it up, and after 30 hours, even the charm that brings to the table will wear off. Unless the DLC eclipses Dark Arisen massively, this game is nowhere near worth the asking price of 70 USD, plus whatever that may cost.

Extremely sparse update schedule with small but admittedly well polished pieces of content. Unforgiving checkpoints and aggravating physics puzzles that have inconsistent controls. Unfortunate knockout system which can force you to slowly stand up in front of the massive enemy that just knocked you out while they wail on you.

Wandering lost aimlessly with no map, unless you look one up or draw your own.

And on top of all this, I'm supposed to expect that not only will this game eventually be finished, but eventually there will be a second, bigger open world RPG with these systems.

It's a shame the combat is so fun, the magic so interesting, and the loot intriguing, because the rest of the game is a slog.

I'll admit, when I first bought this game to play it with a friend, I was under the impression that it was pretty basic, but cool. Feels a bit like Sword Art Online, but as a shallow arena hack and slash.

I look around a bit to see what's next, where this'll all go, and I find that there was a roadmap that contained plans to release the OOParts Labyrinth content update, where you and friends could adventure through a procedurally generated dungeon to put together an out of place artifact you'd need to defeat a floor boss. According to some other sources I could find, spell casting and ranged weapons were planned as well.

Not only was none of this added, none of this is talked about at all, it's as if the community and developers forgot this was even planned. Furthermore, the developers moved onto their new game, Altair Breaker, which is practically the same game with a new coat of paint and two new mechanics (in the same shallow arena hack and slash format): climbing/gliding and aerial anime style slash dashes.

From what I can tell, that game has nothing much to do in it either, and just recently on their discord servers, they've announced a THIRD GAME that is currently in development, which will undoubtedly be the same thing with another coat of paint.

Even worse than their penchant for jumping from one ship to the other, they had the audacity to design the game in a way where it relied on a service to continue to run at all, not just to connect players, and for quite some time after the termination of this underdeveloped game, it was completely unavailable. Only recently, after significant backlash, have the developers decided to renege on the termination, and restore the service with a new offline mode so the game can be played again. I imagine they figured out that if players understood the same thing could happen with Altair Breaker, no one would care about that game, or anything else they have to release.

But after witnessing all of this firsthand over the process of a couple years, I'm here to tell you to run. Do not support any of Thirdverse's products. Until they prove that not only can they develop a compelling game that isn't just a single mechanical iteration on the exact same idea with new 3D models, and prove that they can be trusted to keep it around, none of their products are worth the price tag unless you're getting it for a literal pittance.

But even then you'll be bored after a handful of hours with this ankle deep VR swordfighter. If you want to see this type of game done better, for singleplayer, go try Blade and Sorcery, and for multiplayer, try Legendary Tales.

Played the main game for 7 hours before they shut the servers down, and as a cool bonus, despite the fact that I own the game, I can't even download PDF copy of the 5e rules.

Sick. Get rid of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ store page.

A great game, what which will consume your time trying to figure out how not to get sepsis and die.

It will also have you doing a great move I like to call "the sleeping bag shuffle", in which you start as a character without the strong trait, and therefore can really only find string and garbage until you get a lighter and/or crowbar, and so you end up suffering hypothermia.

At this point, the game gives you an encounter with a car, which gives you a free sleeping bag (and a boot, if you have tracking) which only works while it's on the ground, but as you have no clothes yet, you will spend each turn going into your inventory and taking the bag out of your hand to put it on the ground so you can end your turn without succumbing to the cold. If you're normal, you start with strong or melee, or both, and trapping, so you can kill and skin the dogman in the intro.

That coat will keep you warm, for sure, but that brings us to the next fun issue: Infection.

You see, if you drink suspicious water, and use dirty bandages, or eat raw meat, you'll likely come down with an infection. This will give you a bunch of debuffs, but more importantly, those debuffs won't matter, because you'll die of blood loss in around 3 turns, depending on how healthy you were before hand.

If you start the game as a strong or melee only character (not both), you'll kill the dogman, but suffer two small wounds (one bigger wound with a strong only character), which, if left untreated, will usually contract an infection.

Or even better, you can do what I did: Make a strong/ranged character with hacking, tracking, and trapping, who manages to quickly secure clean bandages to treat his small scratch and deep gash, then (after a lot of other events) find a shopping cart.

The shopping cart is then assaulted by... another dogman. I keep it at a distance, and lob stones with my sling, keeping my meat cleaver at the ready in case he goes unconscious, or gets too close. I kill this dogman with four or five well placed stones, and skin him, claiming my second dogman coat, and tons of meat, which I immediately race back to my nearby camp to cure, alongside the water I needed to boil for sale when I arrive at the Junk Market.

I cure the meat, and then a man runs in to steal it. I drop my cart, and lob two stones, stomping his head in when he falls unconscious from his wounds. I open the inventory screen to find my cart, its 12 water bottles, 4 shoulder straps, makeshift pack, 2 water testers, 3 tarps, multiple pills and dogman coat are gone.

Thinking a game that was out of early access for half a decade wouldn't have a critical, seriously game altering bug, I suspected a nearby stranger would have stolen the cart, and so, in retribution, I killed him too. When I didn't find my cart, I kept looking, and stumbled across a Blue Frog member, who kindly shot me in the left shoulder. I duck behind cover, pull the arrow out, and treat it with a nice, clean rag. I kill him with some stones, and a brutal cleaver-ing, and make my way back to boil what water is left, and mourn my loss with some cured meat.

I then promptly, despite having immediately treated all wounds with clean bandages, having drank no water that I hadn't first boiled, and having not consumed any human, rotting or uncooked meat, contracted sepsis, and died 3 turns later.

I love this game. But I seriously don't understand how someone survives it without strong, melee, and botany. You need early warmth, good loot, and tannin tea to survive the game's biggest piles of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it is.

It's a nice game, I'll give you that. But the RNG gives you no fun whatsoever. Pick it up if you really like turnbased CRPGs with a penchant for dice rolls, or if the game looks appealing, otherwise, you'll just be frustrated.

I'm gonna be honest here, the premise is cool and is what led me to spend what is all of my current 3.9 hours in the game in one sitting. But after trying different strategies and trying to figure out what most of the lore fragments mean, I grew tired.

This is not a cult builder.

This is some poor dude trying to convince one dude that this poetry book he has contains a secret hidden code of "the moth" while trying to stave off hallucinations, depression, and buy enough food for himself with his dead-end job that either consumes your life or costs so much passion and reason that you can't do anything else. Then the depression gets you, and you'll be sitting there another half hour trying to figure it out again. From STEP ONE.

Great game, poor optimization. There's no way my specs can be an issue when I get the same performance issues and fps on both Ultra and Low. 60fps, which quickly drops to 32, then up to maybe 40, then 60, then 52. The stuttering, despite multiple tweaks to the game and through the NVidia Control Panel didn't fix the issue.

I'd played the game on PS4 previously, and had a blast, saw the game on sale and figured it'd be nice, but honestly, it feels like a subpar port of a decent game. If you have a mega rig, you might get stable performance, but otherwise it feels like playing this on console is a better choice.
