Orb of Creation is by and far the best incremental game I've played so far, and if you're a fan of the genre or interested in trying it out, this is an absolute must buy.

Especially for $5 or whatever your regional currency is. Frankly, this could still easily be $10-15 and I'd still say it's worth it.

Off the rails anti-masker rant in the patchnotes... check.

Sanctimonious confirmation checklist when starting a new game about how people can't take a joke... check.

Dev's twitter is full of deranged hot takes... check.

Yeah, I think I'll stay away from this one.

Incredibly charming and equally streamlined, Revita is a cute but deadly Roguelike that doesn't outstay its welcome with hour+ long runs nor terribly bloated item pools filled with junk you just don't need. It definitely has a long way to go before it's done, but for an early access game, Revita has a lot of potential.

Also you use your own health as a currency, which was an incredibly gutsy move, but I can safely say that it's balanced really well so it never feels like an imposition. It's more like a dare: do I sacrifice almost all my HP for a big boost and try to heal back slowly, or do I play it safe and accrue smaller upgrades at minimal cost? The answer is always go big and then stay home because I am a hermit.

Lucifer Within Us is a fantastic cyber-noir investigation game that plays somewhat similar to Phoenix Wright, but with an overall vibe closer to Sexy Brutale.

You play as Ada, an inquisitor charged with hunting down daemons that have possessed three individuals over the course of the game, causing them to commit foul murders thematically tied to their backstory and the daemon involved. For the most part it involves quickly gathering clues, and then slowly picking apart an interwoven timeline of suspect testimony, finding the contradictions, and then using those to pinpoint the exact culprit. It's an engaging system, and one I'd really love to see expanded upon in other investigation games in the future (these mechanics in Phoenix Wright would be a dream come true).

There are some pretty major religious overtones throughout the game, which should be pretty obvious based on the title, and while it is overtly Abrahamic in inspiration, it never comes off as preachy. If anything it was a respectful alternate religion similar to modern ones, but distinct enough to remain interesting throughout the story.

It's also pretty dang pretty, with visuals on par with Supergiant's.

Unfortunately, and this is the biggest sticking point from what I can tell from other reviews, is the incredibly short duration. There are only three cases throughout the entire game, and the first one is 50% tutorial. We clocked in 5 hours of total playtime, but that was after narrating every dialogue option possible and thus artificially doubling the effective duration of Lucifer Within Us.

For me, this was a non-issue, since I love shorter games with more condensed plots that don't outstay their welcome, but for a lot of people this is potentially a deal breaker. So if you're patient/thrifty, I'd highly recommend this game within the $10-15 range.

So... When's episode 2?

In all seriousness, Scarlet Hollow is a fantastic horror game that leans more on eerie moods and good writing over cheap jump scares or excessive gore. It sits in the perfect sweet spot between Night In The Woods' existential dread, and Until Dawn's more direct slasher horror- but with a wider variety of choices and potential end results. In four hours of play, we experienced a sizeable number of potential plot branches, and I can only imagine how labyrinthine this game will become by the time all 7 episodes are out.

Plus, having the whole game hand illustrated by Abby Howard is *chef's kiss*

Gone Viral is Bulletstorm + Binding of Isaac, but without any of the gross bits of the latter. It's also really good for an early access roguelike, which are everywhere these days, so don't let the EA tag dissuade you.

You spend most of your time booting enemies into pits, spikes, fire, bombs, or even eachother for bonus points that earn you a wide variety if boons- some temporary, and others major and game changing. I've had numerous runs where the core gameplay loop drastically changed based on just a few upgrades, such as a bubble wand that floods rooms with endless spike balls, or arms the length of an entire room that can hit bullets back at enemies.

At the moment, the only real weak point is the bosses, as they're too big and too tanky to be thrown into pits, but considering how fun everything else is, I don't mind much.

A weird mix of Slay The Spire's branching map system with the resource gathering systems of a 4x strategy game, As Far As The Eye is a placid caravan sim... until it isn't. You really have to balance how you play incredibly well, and one wrong move or decision can send your caravan into an unstoppable death spiral that only gets worse as the numerous negative events pile on, grinding your poor pupils into dust.

It's pretty fun. Just be ready to try and fail, a lot, because As Far As The Eye pulls no punches.

I hope they add some difficulty modifiers/turn down the negative events a bit (a lot really), but for now I'd still recommend As Far As The Eye if you're looking for a unique take on roguelike design.

This is the best, worst game I've ever had the (dis)pleasure of playing.

I don't regret spending 3 hours baffled by Craftopia, and I sincerely hope they'll turn it into something good.

But at the moment it's a wild mess.

My sanity actually feels harmed by playing this.

I need a nap.

Buy this on sale, or wait till 2025 and check again.

It's 2023, and it's good now.

Before starting this game, I said to myself, "let's just play for 30 minutes and see how good it is."

Two hours later at midnight, I said to myself, "hot dang this game is actually really deep! I'm not sure if I can finish this!"

Two hours later at 2 am, I said to myself, "one... more... puzzle..."

Which must mean that Filament is pretty good!

It's everything I liked about The Witness, but with a much more upfront story, lore, world building, and most of all a treasure trove of audio and text logs to read over between puzzles (though many of them are hidden away behind rather devious environmental clues). They aren't necessary in the slightest, but it really helped me immerse myself in the game in a way that most puzzle games completely fail at.

The music and visuals are also 10/10. Bought the soundtrack too so I could listen to it on my own time.

If I had to live the rest of my life on a space station like this, I would probably be quite content.

Curse of the Dead Gods is probably the best translation of Dark Souls mechanics, pacing, and gameplay to an isometric perspective so far, but with a Slay The Spire style map, moody illustrative artstyle, and a neat risk vs reward curse/gold system to keep things from getting stale. It's really well-made, and as of this review just hit early access- so with luck it'll be even greater by the time it fully releases!
