Alien: Isolation is a stealth, survival horror game set upon the Sevastopol, a space station orbiting a gas giant, KG-348. From the moment the game started I was impressed by the visual fidelity and the amount of care that was put into the fine details, as well as the overall atmosphere of the game, it's got a very retro and dated feel, in the best way imaginable, everything from the details on the control panels to the signs above the doorways, everything feels like it has a purpose and does a great deal to help immerse the player into the game. Another noteworthy thing is the alien, while I won't spoil much...it's good, the alien isn't scripted, it doesn't go into any specific direction, meaning every time you play, it can change how it approaches you. In the game you're given a scanner display enemy locations, but don't assume this makes the game a cake walk, it doesn't, enemies only appear on the scanner if they're moving, and aren't in hiding, meaning that even though the scanner is blank, you could still be in for a surprise, another noteworthy thing about the scanner is it isn't silent if the creature hears it, it WILL investigate, but don't worry, you're not completely unarmed, through out the game you can find a variety of weapons, which while they aren't powerful enough to kill the alien, some of them are excellent at "detering" it. The last thing i'm going to discuss in order to not make this review too long is the games performance, because it was created using a custom engine the technical aspects of this game are pretty impressive, be it the sound design or the performance, it looks, feels, and sounds extremely satisfying. Overall an excellent game worthy of your time and money.
TLDR: A survival horror game with excellent attention to detail, and impressive enemy AI, not for the faint of heart.
