Early Access Review
The UI isn't always the most intuitive, and sometimes the timer can bite you in the butt if you really need time to stop and think about your next move. Hopefully they'll add the ability to modify the turn timer.

Other than these small quibbles, it's exactly what we've been waiting for. An interactive/online version of a great tabletop game

Definitely takes me back to the days of F-Zero or Extreme-G. If you like fast-paced racing games, this is for you.

There's a lot of room for skill expression in this game. It takes a while to get a good feel for the controls, especially steering/strafing. I've read reviews talking about the difficulty, taking the top spot in some of the career challenges (not the races) can be very difficult. The best recommendation I have is to just keep moving forward, don't worry about getting 1st place or top tier or max completion on every event in order - that's not what the game is designed for. You'll unlock cars and parts that you can use in different combinations to come back and clear those for the sake of completion.

All in all, once you get the hang of it, it's an absolute blast. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys fast-paced racing games.

It's if Titanfall 2 and Katana Zero had a child. You're going to die a lot on your first playthrough, but the movement and combat are incredibly satisfying (addicting) once you start getting the hang of it. I'm having a blast, and I have no doubt that even though I've beaten it, I'll come back later just to replay all the slashy, wall-running fun.

This game sparks the same wonder and natural curiosity at the universe that Cosmos does for me (both the Carl Sagan and the NDT versions). While it does have its shortcomings, I am absolutely loving playing this game and getting the chance to freely explore and experience the universe.

I played the 14-day trial back in December and have been hooked since. This is the first MMO I've played in a long time that has truly presented a world where I can get lost in its vast splendor. The cities, while not super cramped and crowded, feel alive, and the NPC's interact with you in a way that makes your character feel like a part of the world - and not just "HERO #9825782165.22".

The story and gameplay start off fairly simple but build up at a pleasant pace, as more content opened up I found myself being genuinely curious to explore it. And before I knew it, I had wandered so far away from the main quest line that I had completely out-leveled it lol. So I took it as an opportunity to begin leveling an alternate class.

The ability to try/level every class on a single character is a godsend. It helps prevent your gameplay from feeling stale since you can change on the fly, and leveling alternate classes is even incentivized because of the way skills, specializations/jobs, and experience work. You could level up multiple classes in order to unlock skills that are beneficial to round out your main job, or you could just be interested in trying new playstyles. And experience gained is increased based on the ratio between the level of your currently selected class, and the level of your highest class/job.

The story itself feels a little archetypical in the base game (A Realm Reborn). It's entertaining and well-executed to be sure, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the patched/added content leading up to Heavensward. I won't spoil anything, but I definitely wasn't expecting some of it. At the time of writing I've been too busy leveling up a Dark Knight, so I haven't done any of the Heavensward story content lol.

Overall, FF14 doesn't necessarily do anything ground-breaking for an MMO. The combat is still based on tab-targeting, although it's a little more active than older tab-targeted MMO's. The only really "new" thing I can think of that it does is the fluidity of changing classes. But FF14 basically takes all the best points of MMO's and combines them into a game with a world and setting that feels both comfortable and compelling. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Makes me think of Legend of Zelda if it had jRPG elements and a killer soundtrack. Ys is a lot of fun to play and if you're a fan of action games or old school jRPG's in general you owe it to yourself to check it out.
